When I came across this post romanticising overwork, I thought of sharing my experience of working in an MNC. I am sharing my story, to make people aware of a healthy and supportive work environment, as it is directly proportional to the company’s productivity, the reputation and overall success. When I got an offer letter from a “so called reputed” CRO (Clinical Research Organisation) in Mohali, I was very thrilled and excited to join the organisation. But in just a few months I was shattered to experience the kind of work environment they were practising. My intention is not to complain but to highlight the challenges that employees faced on a daily basis which were blatantly ignored by the management. The work environment they were providing was extremely challenging for the employees to cope up with and stay sane at the same time. One of the most significant issues was the consistently long shifts and “MANDATORY OVERTIMES” on most of the weekends. The Fridays there, I would describe them as ‘Frightening Fridays’, as we used to be in fear that we would be asked to do overtime this weekend as well. Ironically, after working for such long hours on daily basis, we were asked to fill 8 hours in the timesheet every month. The company didn’t allow to have holidays saying we have “HIGH WORK INFLOW”, which took a major toll on my mental heath while coping with the work stress. Moreover, in one of the meetings I heard the management had the audacity to say to one employee, who raised the issue of working overtime, that your working hours according to the company are 8 hours and as you are incapable of completing your task on time, you are working overtime while hysterically almost everybody was working from morning till even midnight. After realising that nothing is going to change in the company and that me being a part of this is in itself promoting this toxic work culture, I made my mind to resign after working for just 9 months. And still the hardest part left was of the two months notice period in which a day seemed like an year. I remember I was not well one day and had a major breakdown, I literally begged my manager for a leave but the reply I got was that, and I quote, “you are in notice period and thus cannot avail a leave”, I think that is against labour laws, but who cares in India. That day I realised how INHUMANE corporates can be. Everyday when I get to hear new stories of company bosses giving such gross advices of working overtime, I feel empathy for the people who can’t resign because of various reasons which these corporates exploit. To all the people romanticising overtime, You all are incapable of realising that the life of your employee is equally important as yours. Thank you for taking the time to read about my experience. I hope that my feedback helps someone in anyway. #infosys #cro #workculture #healthyworkplace #overworked #workload #narayanamurthy #Saynotoovertime

exactly, this is what a job makes a perfely suitable for you, if the work environment is non-toxic, effective & supportive. But when the boss himself is a type of shit, no more survival could be possible there. Having an egoistic, toxic & non-supportive boss is a root cause to no career growth & mental fatigue. #corporatefact #toxicworkenvironment #carreerchallenges #boss

A decent salary hike is as important as a healthy workplace because a healthy workplace would help in enhance your productivity of your role in the company. The company will automatically grow when the employees working there grow in a healthy internal environment. Thus grows the bond between the company and the employees.
