Empathy is the most underrated skill in leadership
Great insights! 💡 Empathy really is a game-changer in leadership. I recently read "The Five Dysfunctions of a Team" by Patrick Lencioni, and it emphasized how trust and empathy can transform a team's dynamic. It's not just about using these phrases; it's about genuinely meaning them and creating a space where everyone feels valued.
A statement that begins with I is rarely empathetic and can have the opposite affect on someone interms of showing you are listening. I much prefer summarization and techniques that demonstrate you are understanding the other party. First because it demonstrates it, and second it less likely that you may have misunderstood as you are giving the other party a chance to rebutle.
Empathic leaders build trust and support with phrases like "I understand how you feel," "How can I help?" and "Your feelings are valid." These expressions encourage open dialogue, validate team members' emotions, and promote a collaborative environment. This approach enhances team morale and productivity.
Leadership styles that are not surrounded by empathy on the road to success are coming to an end.
At end of the day we need more leaders that put actions more than words. These phrases we can all learn and memories. I have experience leaders say the most beautiful phrases, quotes and promises but nothing else comes out of them. Makes me wonder what makes them go up the ladder in the corporate world?
Empathetic leaders create safe environments for their teams. Safe environments lead to more creativity, risk-taking and a healthy culture of mutual respect. That is what it’s all about.
I found the best way to develop empathy is through meditation and also spiritual studies.
What about YOU'RE FIRED. Seems to be popular with the RNC.

3wAnd not one of the phrases helps, ‘works’ or is impactful if it is not said sincerely, from a good, caring servant heart and backed up and demonstrated by our lives as leaders. We can only fake empathy for so long... “I can’t hear what you’re saying because your life is speaking too loudly!” My two humble cents.
