When people know that they have a hand in making their workplace a better environment, people tend to respond positively to that. Most of the time all we hear is negativity from our leaders and managers, what we did wrong, that we took too long, that we need to work faster... Hearing that you did a good job, and that your extra work is appreciated, and rewarding employees with bonuses, extra breaks, Pizza days, and awards of acknowledgment go far in motivating people and creating a more positive work environment!

I think a leader’s responsibility is to inspire, to provide that spark, that incentive. I believe it is the individual’s responsibility to motivate themselves.
