Thrilled to be in San Diego this week for the International Aviation Womens Association (IAWA) Conference, and for the opportunity to engage with many incredible female leaders and friends across the globe in one of my favorite annual professional development events. This years conference theme is: Changing the Game in Aerospace—and I love it. It’s time we took a more proactive approach together to think of the many ways in which our industry must evolve to both keep up with the ever-changing travel/passenger/airspace/technology needs AND retain/attract/support/develop/champion the diverse talent within. The times and workplaces are changing, and there is a need for more game-changing talent at every table and in every room. My goal for the "SEVEN SUMMITS STUBAI" this year was to climb two more mountains, one at the beginning of the vacation, the other towards the end of our stay in Austria. In the first days we had nice weather, actually almost too warm, so the first targeted summit was no issue. But then the situation changed and partly thunderstorms with squalls and heavy rain moved over the region. Everybody of you who has already been in the mountains knows that this can occur very quickly. As the weather forecast was relatively promising, I set off early in the morning. It was still very foggy, but dry and no bad conditions predicted. I was the first to take the gondola that day to the starting point of the tour at the top station of the “Elferbahn”. From there, the path started in serpentines in the direction of the “Elferhütte”, the last possible refreshment stop until the summit. Further it went over several prominent ridges uphill towards the “Elferspitze”. The higher I got, the more challenging the climbing passages became. When reaching the eastern flank of the summit, it became more and more foggy, so that I literally no longer saw my hand in front of my eyes. I decided to take a break, observed the conditions, and kept looking at my weather app. Since the situation was not getting better and I was going up the mountain alone, I decided to stop the climb and turn back. 💡 My #insight of the day: Even if you are close to your target, you should not just keep walking "blindly", but go step by step towards the #goal. If you recognize stumbling blocks or dangers on your chosen path, it can sometimes make sense to turn around and take a different route. Companies can experience a similar situation in their daily #business operations.
