Big news! Fashion Revolution Brasil have published their 2023 edition of the #FashionTransparencyIndexBrazil 🇧🇷 The Fashion Transparency Index Brazil reviews data on 60 major brands' policies, practices, and impacts along the entire value chain, covering 263 indicators on topics related to purchasing practices, living wages, gender and racial equality, circularity, climate and biodiversity, supply chain traceability, governance and more. The latest research shows that transparency in the Brazilian fashion industry is still too slow. Among 60 of the largest fashion brands and retailers in the domestic market, the overall average score achieved was only 22%, with 16 brands scoring zero points. Wonder how your favourite perfumer or skincare brand fares in board gender diversity? According to this recent WWD feature, women hold 36% of board seats at the top 20 largest beauty companies by global sales (excluding privately owned Chanel Beauty and Mary Kay). That’s some progress from 2017 when none of the 10 largest had reached board gender parity, and not a single woman had yet to sit on the boards of the Amorepacific, Beiersdorf and Kao groups. Thankfully, more firms are recognising that it simply makes business sense to have directors who, among other expertise, have insights into a rather large consumer group - one that also takes the lead on household decisions. Today, Beiersdorf, whose brands include Nivea and La Prairie, has reached 42% women on board (WOB), while Kao, makers of Biore and John Frieda, is at 21%, and Amorepacific, famed for ginseng-enriched Sulwhasoo, is at 17%. Coty, which had only 1 female board director in 2017, has made diversity part of its culture with 6 women out of 11 board directors (55%). I believe in concrete actions and today it was meaningful to host a Round Table to Unlock the Gender Pay Gap in the fashion supply chain, together with Erika Andreetta, PwC and Carlo Capasa, CNMI, The National Chamber for Italian Fashion #iwd2024 Addressing the gender pay gap requires a unified commitment from all stakeholders. The industry must prioritise transparency, equal opportunities, and fair compensation across the entire value chain. By adopting responsible purchasing practices and promoting pay equity, the fashion industry can become a catalyst for change!

Absolutely appalled by the concerning figures recently published in the UK Fashion DEI Report 2024. "Despite its evolved public-facing persona, our data shows that the situation is different when it comes to the industry’s internal leadership teams, particularly those in positions that hold the most power. Board and executive teams show a significantly lower percentage of diverse representation for both gender and ethnicity. 11% of power roles are held by people of colour, 24% are held by women. 86% of white men in the industry believe the industry is diverse. 46% of women of colour believe the industry is diverse." This vital conversation must be had in the industry to ensure that Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion are more than buzzwords but a tangible reality at all levels of leadership.
