I started with Brebner Print in 1995 as a machinist/folder operator, eventually taking on an apprenticeship in Print Finishing.   2️⃣ What are some of the major highlights of your career to date? In my 28 years at Brebner Print I have been fortunate to be part of such a hardworking and loyal team with a great culture, highlights include winning the National Print Finisher Apprenticeship title in 2000, year on year gold medal success at the Pride in Print awards, successfully implementing the stamp business from Southern Colour Print into Brebner Print and building strong relationships within the wider Blue Star team, all of the challenges and rewards make my journey an enjoyable experience.   3️⃣ What have been the biggest learnings/learning experiences? Without a doubt, navigating the previous 4 years with COVID and cyclone Gabriella has been the most challenging time of my career to date, it has been a privilege to lead our team through the associated challenges and I continue to be amazed at the resilience and fortitude shown by our team.   4️⃣ What excites you about the future for NZ businesses and Blue Star? Being part of a progressive and adaptable business in Blue Star is truly a rewarding experience, our people and values are what make us stand out from our competitors and I am proud to be working for a company that prioritises this.    5️⃣ If you could go back and give yourself 1 piece of advice, it would be…… I would remind myself to live in the now and appreciate each and every moment for what it is. #bluestarnz #peopleleader #makingithappen

A small insight on one of the things I have learned during my internship at Pakistan Ordnance Factories. You might've thought that a lipstick container is the same as a bullet's case in form, it is because they both are blanked, cupped, drawn and trimmed by the same general process and equipment. However the lipstick tube serves only as a container while bullet's case is a component of a very powerful "engine". Process of making Bullet cases: 1) Strip Formation (Brass) 2) Cupping (F ~ 2 ton pounds) 2.1) Cutting Punch 2.2) Cupping Punch 3) Annealing (~660°C) 4) Quality Control 5) 1st Draw (length increases, wall thickness decreases) 6) Annealing 7) Quality Control 8) 2nd Draw 9) Annealing 10) Quality Control 11) Final Draw 12) Washing (cleans off any tarnish) 13) Trimming (removes any extra length) 14) Indenting (is done at the bottom of case where cap is placed) 15) Heading (head is made flat onthe bottom of the case) 16) Stamping (name of company, round size etc.) 17) Piercing (punching process to make holes) 18) Semi or body annealing 19) Tapering 20) Head turning and mouth reaming 21) Tip annealing 22) Rumbling (to remove thermal stress) 23) Final quality check 24) Visual quality check (checks quality of each case using a visual machine). #internship #experience #bullet #manufacturing #industry #bulletcase #bulletmanufacturing #ammunition #processofbulletcasemanufacturing

Completed my 2 weeks Vocational Training at Rifle Factory Ishapore. I would like to express my deepest gratitude and appreciation to RFI for providing me with the opportunity to undergo my industrial training at their esteemed organization. I gained an overview of the manufacturing processes for various types of rifles and pistols, which are as follows: 1. Barrel Production : Steel blanks are drilled and rifled to create the barrel's spiral grooves. 2. Receiver Fabrication : The receiver, which houses the firing mechanism, is machined from a metal block. 3. Stock Creation : Wooden or synthetic materials are shaped into the rifle stock, which supports the barrel and receiver. 4. Assembly : The barrel, receiver, and stock are assembled, with components like the trigger and bolt added. 5. Finishing and Testing : The assembled rifle is finished with coatings for durability, then rigorously tested for accuracy and functionality. #connections #internship #mechanicalengineering

Look #behindthescenes of SABEU - Part 6 and meet André Bierbaum, our sole Measurement Technician - the expert ensuring that every component meets their specified dimensions. 👋🏼 André's journey with SABEU began in 2006 and today we look back at the past 16 years he has spent with us. Outside the world of the Quality Department, you can find him passionately playing or watching soccer and enjoying moments with friends and family. ⚽️ When asked why he chose SABEU, André's answer refers to his first contact with the company during an internship while in high school. The pleasant working environment, coupled with his familiarity with the processes and products, made the decision easy for him. We asked, “André, could you tell us how your journey with SABEU began?” “In my first years at SABEU, I started an apprenticeship as a Process Mechanic. From setting up machines to preparing tools for injection molding and even writing machine programs, my work was extremely varied. During my apprenticeship I worked in various departments, including dispatch and quality assurance.” As the company experienced significant growth (from around 60 employees at the time), his expertise became an integral part of the team. Although there were no vacancies in production, his move to the quality department marked a turning point in his career. 📈 He worked as a Quality Inspector until 2015, when his responsibilities changed again in his role as a Measurement Technician. Now his tasks include production release, incoming goods inspection and initial sample inspection. His role has also shifted to a more project-based focus, handling tasks such as initial sample inspections for new tools. ℹ️An interesting fact about his daily work: The indispensable tool of his trade is the measuring caliper, confirming that every component meets the specified dimensions. Good evening! Happy Monday... I hope you are sitting comfortably ready for today's #careersimpact story! Bouncing off Bella Doswell CCDP, RCDP post regards the importance of CAs in an age where there is SO MUCH information available, this seems timely... I was in one of our CXK partner schools working with a Year 11 who on paper seemed sorted... had an offer from the local college for Mechanics but, had missed her careers session. Our school (being awesome) wanted to check she was actually OK (not assuming based on intended destinations/offers). She comes along to her session (usual one hour allocated). We get talking and she says she wants to get into vehicle wrapping. From research on the internet, she thought she needed a Mechanics course to do this. I continued to unpick why she wanted to do it (The Fast & Furious - first film had been a BIG influence on her)... she wanted to get into designing and applying vehicle graphics/decals. Now a small confession... I have a friend who comes from a traditional Signwriting family who, over time shifted to decals for cars and trucks. He's told me it is a can of worms in the UK (regards training). He's also not in a position to take anyone on. On IFATE I know there is space for a Signwriting Apprenticeship but, it hasn't been developed. Back to the session... We agreed to research her ideas... she is also interested in Tattooing. A bit of research later and we have several options. 1. Train to be a Mechanic then use this to find an Apprenticeship in Car Bodywork to get close to training to Wrap via Work Based Training (WBT). 2. Take Art & Design at college, use as a foundation to prepare for Tattoo training at 18 or training in a Sign company which does graphics and Wraps; possibly WBT or Apprenticeship (if one exists). NB. With caveat that after Art she could still do a Mechanics Apprenticeship and after Mechanics, she could still do Tattooing etc. She liked option 2. Actions: she will visit college to look at Art course and speak to local company we found who Wraps vehicles! Hurrah! #careersimpact She went away happy... Now THE TWIST! I had some time later in the day and wanted to research further on IFATE... twenty minutes later I found "Signage Technican" which in the small print includes Car Wraps! Whoop! Whoop! I messaged my client.- Mum and client are now going to message the training providers and employers involved with developing the standard to find out more #careersimpact PS. Had email back from Mum tonight, thanking me for all my help. 🙂 What did I learn? We can't know it all. We help clients find clarity in their hearts & minds whilst also, seeking clarity in the piles of misinformation out there... which is murky! We can empower clients to research. If we have time, we can research too; especially if it is unclear in the moment. Which is why having time and capacity, is so useful. I thank my school today, for giving me this time 🤠
