Officials from the Karnataka Milk Federation (#KMF) met with Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda to advocate for reducing the GST on #flavouredmilk. They requested that flavoured milk be reclassified from a beverage to a dairy product, which would lower the #GST rate from 12% to 5%. This request follows a Tamil Nadu High Court ruling that flavoured milk is not a beverage. KMF emphasized that flavoured milk contains only 1% sugar and should be categorized with other dairy products. They argued that the current classification adds an unnecessary burden on the farmer union-based firm. The reclassification could save KMF around ₹30 crore annually. The Indian Council for Agricultural Research and the National Dairy Research Institute also support this change. KMF hopes the issue will be addressed in the upcoming GST Council meeting.

Sugarcane growers in Belagavi Karnataka are facing financial issues as mills delay payments due to an export ban and ethanol production restrictions, reports The Times of India. Under Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP) regulations, payments should be made within 14 days, but many mills haven't paid since December, totaling Rs 1,500 crore. In Belagavi, 10 out of 28 mills owe farmers Rs 216 crore.
