Indianapolis Cultural Trail Inc’s Post

☔ Did you know the Cultural Trail plays a significant role in managing Indianapolis’ rainwater? Stormwater planters, also called rain gardens or bioswales, are a type of green infrastructure that helps manage rainwater. 💧 Rather than flowing through the drains you see along sidewalk curbs, water is instead directed into these sunken plant beds. Once in the plant bed, it slowly drains into the soil. The plants and soil then act as a cleaning system, filtering out sediment, chemicals and trash. 💪 Maintaining the Cultural Trail's 83 individual stormwater planters is no small feat! Now, if we could just turn more of those paved parking lots into housing / mixed use with integrated green infrastructure and onsite storm water management.
