🛠️How do we improve patient experience? 🛠️How do we improve staff recognition? 🛠️How do we incentivize staff? 🛠️how do we gain staff buy-in? Why can’t you do it all at once? In the emergency department at Northeast Georgia Medical Center Barrow we are trialing all of that at one time. Check out our Press Ganey Superstars board! 🌟This board will be used to recognize staff members that were positively named in our weekly Press Ganey patient experience comments. Each positive comment is shared with staff via email and each positive comment will be symbolized by a gold star ⭐️ placed by the employee’s picture. This creates healthy competition amongst staff, while improving staff recognition and improving patient experience. Additionally, the department has a goal related to the final annual average for patient experience scores. That goal is represented in the middle of the board with my pictures. One which represents our Chick-fil-a 🐥level of customer service and the other which represents poor customer service. If the staff can meet the quarterly goal set then they are rewarded with Chick-fil-a meals 🍗from the management team. Thankful for a Unit Practice Council Chair that helped bring the vision to life! I can’t wait to see all the gold stars on the board. I know this crew will continue to provide top tier (Chick-fil-a level 🐥) customer service and I can’t wait to see the positive impact this has on our patients and their care. Do you know the policies being discussed in your career realm? I am in healthcare and hardly knew the details of what is being discussed or voted on, however as a Nurse Practitioner student these directly affect me. The AANP looks at the top policy issue is to modernize state licensure laws. Recently they looked at the topic of prescribing authority for the Nurse Practitioners which is integral to the topic of autonomous licensing in all the states. They are specifically concerned with this topic in an effort to make healthcare providers more accessible to the vast majority of patients who may not otherwise get care. This also directly impacts the cost of health care where licensing is not updated for Nurse Practitioners. One of the great benefits of living in a democracy is that each of us has a voice and the ability and space to speak up and vote about things that are quite important.
