According to The Food Waste Index Report 2024 released by UN Environment Programme today, each person wastes on an average 79 kg food annually which is equivalent to 1 billion meals being wasted worldwide every single day. Food loss and food waste generate 8-10% of GHG emissions. And all this occurs while 783 million people are hungry globally !! Food loss and food waste needs to be addressed at systemic and individual level.
