This is yet another excellent example of why there is a need for national training and education standards for our police officers, guided by a College of Policing for Canada. Like all other true professions, a College will act as a "central repository for best practices" and provide current and relevant knowledge to all existing police training entities and police services. This initiative by the Delta Police Chief should be a part of ALL entry-level training for our police officers. However, the reality is that most training entities do not teach this subject. The quality of police service delivery in Canada would improve considerably with new current and relevant knowledge provided. Please read these comment by the Delta Police Training Inspector. “I believe it will be one of the most impactful programs that this department will have ever delivered. A senior officer about to retire told me ABLE training was one of the most profound training sessions he had participated in and wished he had the training earlier in his career.” TRANSFORMING THE CULTURE OF POLICING. https://lnkd.in/gS747nF9 Please join the Coalition for Canadian Police Reform as a member! www.c-cpr.com #cacp #capg #cpa #rcmp #policetraining #policeeducation #publicsafety #DPD

Is Britain falling apart at the seams ? Economist article on the dilapidated and unsafe state of public buildings, hospitals, schools and colleges outlines an alarming trend of neglect, sticking plaster remedies, abandonment and lack of funding. It seems that years of austerity followed by Brexit and Covid economic draining of the economy has resulted in collapse of funding support, the financial means to deal with it and a threadbare and depleted resources for even the simplest stop-gap measures. So what is the solution ... a new government with radical socialist ideals that will invest in the country and it's building stock including housing ??

With a combination of municipal, provincial and regional law enforcement, Canada’s policing environment is both complex and in need of national standards; in this first of two articles, Vernon White, former Chief of Police for Ottawa Police Service, and Joe Carlebach, former Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care and Health at Hammersmith and Fulham Council, argue that establishing a college of policing for Canada could help to create those standards while also professionalising the policing role. ❝A college of policing would ensure that Canadians, regardless of where they live, receive the same level of policing and standards across the country.❞ ❝The creation of a college of policing would assure the public that training, education, and policing are carried out to the highest standards.❞ ❝A college of policing could standardise educational requirements needed to become a certified police officer and improve the practice and craft of policing; currently there is no requirement to accept or adopt national standards or practices, and this needs to be changed.❞ https://lnkd.in/eW6KVdkF #lawenforcement #policing #police #policereform

For non-Ontarians: The establishment of the Inspectorate of Policing in Ontario has huge potential to enhance training, education and professionalism in Ontario. My hope is that the work of the Inspectorate will lead the way and demonstrate to other provinces how police officers can best be supported to maintain the peace in the face of an increasingly complex social environment. Public Safety Canada | Sécurité publique Canada Canadian Association of Police Governance Coalition --Canadian Police Reform
Establishing the Inspectorate of Policing as a new, modern oversight body that will have a significant impact on Ontario’s public safety system is an enormous milestone for our province. This is a first in Canada. Every day, I’m proud of the work the team at the Inspectorate of Policing has done – and continues to do – to become fully operational on April 1, when the Community Safety and Policing Act, 2019 (CSPA) comes into force. The Inspectorate will work each day to improve performance and enhance the effective delivery of public safety services, modernize police governance, and ultimately, improve public confidence in the sector. At the Inspectorate, we are motivated by a desire to raise the bar, and our work with our partners is no different. We are focused on working together to ensure we continue to lead both in Canada and the world. We have an exciting road ahead, and we are ready to travel it. #InspectorGeneral #InspectorateofPolicing #IG #IoP #publicsafety

Coming tomorrow. Some big recommendations for policing and national security. Some of the recommendations sound like a consolidation of power under the Feds. Which I thought was one of the issues in the first place? The separation of powers and the clear delineation of oversight. “Rouleau's recommendations were broken down into six categories, and included calls for change across levels of government: - policing; - federal intelligence collection and co-ordination; - critical trade corridors and infrastructure; - changes to the Emergencies Act; - areas for further study; and - follow-up and accountability.” Either way, I’ll be listening in on what comes from this. Some potential for big changes. #theboss #federal #policing #lawenforcement #oversight #convoy #protest #assembly #commission #freedom #publicorder #publicsafety #emergencies #acts #law #legal #cdnpoli #rcmp Raquel Dancho Michael G. What Canada needs is a National Transportation Police, incorporating Railways, Air and Ports. This has been advocated by members of the railroad police in Canada for decades. Railways, Air and Ports (RAP) are similar in terms of their logistics, integration, economic role and risks associated to critical infrastructure. For those of us who have worn the uniform and policed in a national transportation capacity for Class 1 railroads in Canada, we have tremendous insight on a specialty policing role like a Ports Police. Ports pose similar challenges and criminal elements to the railroads. Those long before my time in policing, who worked alongside the Ports Police in BC and Atlantic Canada, often reminded me of their efforts to prevent their disbandment in the mid 90's. This was also at the same time a push to disband railroad police had taken place by the federal government however, was unsuccessful. A call for a Ports Police is nothing new however, what Canada truly needs is a Federal Transportation Police. It's time to keep Canada's economic backbone safe and moving with fluidity. Less bureaucracies, reduce triplications in service offerings and more preservation of tax-payer dollars. #transporationpolice #railroadpolice #portspolice #cacp
