It was a pleasure to have Julien Meimon, the founder of Linkee in our Paris office yesterday. He spoke to our team about how the company manages logistics to meet its goals of reducing food waste and helping students in need. He explained that one of their greatest challenges is recovering fresh food and distributing it before it goes bad. This would be easy if the food was available in large quantities in one place but it is rarely the case and they need to mobilize numerous refrigerated vehicles in various areas to achieve this. The good news is that, although Linkee is still a young organization (7 years old) they already have feedback from former students now in the workforce who say they wouldn't be where they are today without their help. The tourist tax is a hot topic of debate as Edinburgh pushes on with plans to be the first part of Scotland to introduce the charge. But what do other cities around the world do? From an incredible, two-mile, underground beer pipeline to dedicated arts funds, an academy for pastry chefs to smart marketing, we took a look at how some of the world's top tourist destinations use the funds they raise. There's plenty of food for thought for Edinburgh from promoting the city to high-spending visitors, supporting the arts and heritage, protecting the environment and tackling social inequality. https://lnkd.in/e8Z9WDft

“Sustainable” is so many ways…
Our story begins in the late 1700's but the business begins to really make its mark in 1891 when William Rankin Jr. makes the intrepid voyage from Scotland to Portugal in search of the most pristine forests from which to source the cork he needs to manufacture the best quality stoppers & closures. There, he planted the seed that eventually grew into the family business we are today. More than a century and six generations later, we’ve changed a bit. But we’re still custodians of those same cork oak forests, and our core mission remains unchanged: to provide world-leading solutions to the drinks industry, made to the highest quality and most ethical standards. Co-Founder/CDO at Food Loop Northwest | Sustainable Food Systems, BIPOC Food Development | Land Use & Sustainability Planner, JEDI
I've been working with Justin Zeulner since meeting him at the early months of the COVID lockdowns when massive amounts of fish and shoreline proteins were locked in freezers and storage units in Alaska with nowhere to go, as restaurants, casinos, cruise ships, etc. were all shutdown globally. Justin, working with more seasoned Emergency Food Response organizations in the NW activated and using their resources and connections - got TONS, like thousands of TONS of fish and coastal food products where it could help! During the course of 10 months I personally participated in driving through snowstorms, flooding, and backroads of Oregon and Washington delivering food and supplies to the Tribal Centers, community centers, the Tacoma Dome, and food drop locations along the I-5 corridor. The conversations around regional food systems and the infrastructure that supports its resilience and function are active and growing. Of course they are, right? Our global and local food systems are in a tenuous situation right now - and it is not money or tech that will repair and innovate the food system at the human level, which is where the actual solutions and problem solving happens. The discussion to practice or action is happening now. And more people, especially larger companies, agencies, and previously less-interested parties, are now very interested in how to manage waste, improve supply procurement, ensure cold-chain continuity under shocks or stressors, and/or localize their food sourcing, etc. The community of practice is starting to gain ground around what an equitable, sustainable, accessible, and value-based regional-to-local food system looks like, sounds like, works, and how it functions from the soil up. If these topics are in your bandwidth, I'd attend! See you there! April 24th in Portland, OR #foodsystemsinnovation #regionalfoodsystems #regionalfoodhub #bipocgrowers #blackfoodnw #foodaccessfoodequity #foodisinfrastructure

Real sustainability in action - an Irish company actively looking for products from Irish businesses - Keep it Local - for too many businesses it is often easier not to ask or to buy overseas goods and services - how are irish companies expected to compete? Allfresh Wholesale Ltd #KeepitLocal #sustainability
We are thrilled to announce a new partnership with @emeraldgreens! Their Irish basil is truly exceptional, and Allfresh is proud to support a fellow Irish business. This basil not only looks, smells and tastes amazing, but it's also a wonderful local product.
