Last night I enjoyed this beautiful the Circle of Life which was one part of a walking light installation. It gave me time to pause and reflect on the year and the lifecycle but more importantly the deep connection between the Arts and our health and wellbeing. This joyous emersive light show last night in Bruges, Winter Gloed inspired me further to seek more opportunities in the new year for art and health to connect. I love how art engages us, and creates something for us to share with people around us. I particularly like art installations that require us to activate our minds and our bodies. And this experience had me walking about the historical town solo, but not alone, enjoying the beauty and sharing the experience with many others enjoying it in their own way. I love that the arts are more accessible than they have ever been in some ways, no longer a pursuit or something to be enjoyed by those who can afford it. Free art events in the community are vital so that we can all experience it and connect with others if we chose to. Funding the arts is just as important as funding other aspects of community life and experiences like last night further reinforce it for me. #connection #art #artandhealth #thearts #thecircleoflife

'Community arts became my initial quest in the 1980’s as a reaction against the commercial art world. How can art participate in a functional way to connect not just art educated people, but our overall communities on issues affecting them that have meaning and purpose. Can we just speak about these issues or can we actually have it be transformative in some way to actually lead to some kind of social or policy change within the community by bringing people together and getting them working together.' Felicia Young runs Earth Celebrations, a non-profit organization engaging communities to effect ecological and social change through the arts. Felicia has developed a methodology utilizing the arts and the theatrical pageant art form, form of street art - along with civic engagement and activism. She’s a 3rd generation New Yorker, with deep roots in the City of New York, as well as much inspiration from the festivals, ceremonies, and mythic dramas from her mother’s native land of India. Now I’ve never met Felicia in person but I know about her work through years of viewing social media such as the YouTube video Celebrations Director Felicia Young - 30 Years of Cultural Organizing for Ecological Changem which is linked in the episode notes. I was moved by Felicia’s response to a question I ask all of my guests about how to prepare for the end of the world as we know it and in particular the issue of doom and gloom and defeatism: 'I don't just see it as doom and gloom because I have been directly involved in 30 years of local people who've just moved forward with implementing these solutions without waiting for the government … My involvement has always been at the grassroots level. And on that, I'm encouraged, but where I'm afraid is the overall political system where we see our elected officials owned by the industries that are doing all of the polluting and controlling the bigger picture, but are we just going to be paralyzed because they're doing the wrong thing and not go ahead with what we know is right?' This is the first in a series of conversations about one of my favorite art forms and one which I think will be especially important and useful in the future : community engaged arts Felicia suggested the following reading and listening materials : Center for Artistic Activism resources William Cleveland’s podcast on community engagement and the arts eco art space publications Artists and Climate Change facebook page

Today, House of Shine is a space of inspiration, self-discovery, and personal growth, brought to life through its self-discovery museum in Grapevine. The museum offers interactive exhibits that guide visitors through the SHINE framework—Strengths, Hobbies, Interests and Irritants, Needs, and Experiences. It's a place where you can connect with your inner self, embrace your uniqueness, and learn how to express your talents and gifts in your daily life. What sets House of Shine apart is its "preventative" approach to mental health and personal development. By helping individuals connect with their best selves, House of Shine aims to equip them with the tools to navigate life's challenges more effectively. The museum's colorful, inviting exhibits make self-reflection a positive and enlightening experience. Each activity, from fishing-themed explorations of hobbies to interactive benches representing the SHINE acronym, encourages visitors to think deeper about themselves in a positive light. But House of Shine doesn't stop at the museum. Their educational programs cater to both children and adults, reinforcing the belief that "every element of what we do is education-based." Claudia Beeny's background in higher education is evident in the thoughtfulness and impact of these programs. Moreover, House of Shine's mission extends beyond its Grapevine location. Educators and communities have recognized the value of their work and are eager to bring it to their schools and neighborhoods. It's this passion for spreading knowledge of self and community-mindedness that drives House of Shine's vision for a brighter world. In the short term, House of Shine is seeking support to expand its space in Grapevine, with a focus on serving diverse communities. As we reflect on the incredible journey of House of Shine and the lives it has touched, let's join hands in supporting their expansion and continued mission. Visit their website at houseofshine.com to learn more, or head over to houseofshine.com/donate to contribute to this remarkable cause. Let's all add a little more "shine" to the world! #HouseOfShine #SelfDiscovery #CommunityImpact #NorthTexasGivingDay

Owner @ Creative Collective LLC | Modern Business Growth for Creators, entrepreneurs and small businesses.
We were honored to partner with the Peabody Essex Museum event last week, and thank you to those who joined us; this ecosystem matters, and we need to work towards shifting how we talk about it AND who we include in the conversations. Via Salem News today... THE LOCAL CREATIVE ECOSYSTEM To the editor: Last week, the Peabody Essex Museum and Creative Collective co-hosted a Creative Ecosystem Roundtable, which brought together over 50 community stakeholders from across the region. This event followed a Networking Breakfast and Leadership Forum held in November and offered a chance to delve into our creative community’s unique opportunities and challenges. These events are part of a partnership series on the creative ecosystem that will continue in the fall. According to a 2024 study by the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis and the National Endowment for the Arts, with data from 2022, the arts and culture sectors, both for-profit and nonprofit, contribute 4.31% to the nation’s GDP, support over 5.2 million jobs, and represent a $1.02 trillion industry—more than the retail, construction, and transportation sectors. We need more support for the arts and culture sector and this came through loud and clear at the roundtable discussions. The conversations need to shift towards how this sector can be better supported and increase the voices of creatives in discussing our most pressing issues. Collaboration and open and honest dialogue are how we can move even the most difficult issues forward toward resolution. Acknowledging the need for these conversations, last week’s Creative Ecosystem Roundtable gathered a diverse mix of practicing artists, working creatives, government officials, and community leaders. It encouraged participants to break down silos and collaborate on the following themes: Living a Creative Life; Sustainability in the Creative Community; Partnerships and Opportunities; Tourism and Festivals; and Advocacy and Governmental Affairs. The discussions were vibrant and infused with active listening, open-mindedness, and mutual respect. This cross-disciplinary roundtable format was experimental but impactful. The room buzzed with energy as new connections were forged and fresh ideas circulated. A recurring theme was how rare and valuable it is to bring together a wide range of creative stakeholders to tackle old challenges from a fresh perspective. We are compiling notes to identify broad themes, trends, and action items for prioritizing, nurturing, and sustaining creative communities. We sincerely appreciate the participants’ openness and collaboration and for fostering honest dialogue for collective problem-solving. Day 2 of #EDRA55, I focused on #MasterPlanning and applied #UniversalDesign. Thanks to Chandra D. Robinson, Karen L. Braitmayer, FAIA and the rest of the Portland Museum of Art design team. Here's a few tidbits: - in an #ArtsMuseum, locate the elevator and primary stair in the same location, providing equal weight, and dignity, to the various options. This can be applied to all buildings. - Entering or exiting through a gift shop provides one more obstacle to accessing the exhibits. Put the gift shop, prominently, to the side of the main entry. #AccessMatters #DEI #AccessForAll #EquityForAll Picture ID: a panel discussion in a conference room consisting of a moderator and 4 panelists, including 4 women, 1 wheelchair user, 1 Native American, 1 African American, 2 Asian American/Pacific Islanders. EXODUS CROOKS EPIPHANY (TEMPORAIRE) At The Ikon, Birmingham. I had the privilege of experiencing Exodus's work for the first time at Block 336 in Brixton, and it left me deeply moved and nostalgic. Each piece in the collection evoked memories from my childhood, transporting me back to a time filled with wonder and joy. Seeing the work showcased at The Ikon, Birmingham on Thursday night, in their hometown, was a poignant moment for me. However, I couldn't help but feel disappointed by the lack of promotion surrounding the event, at The Ikon, they had a great opportunity to welcome Exodus's collection to Birmingham and raise their profile, as an artist. I understand the main point of the evening was to celebrate the 60th anniversay of the Ikon, but, I didn't know about the anniversary event, I thought I was going to a launch party for Exodus's exhibiton. As Exodus previewed the collection at Block 336 in Brixton, I couldn't help but contemplate the missed opportunities for broader exposure. However, the premiere of "EPIPHANY (TEMPORAIRE)" in London in August 2023 garnered attention from esteemed artists, individuals, and members of diverse communities, underscoring the potential for the work to resonate with a wider audience. This experience serves as a reminder to all arts and culture organisation's to reassess their marketing teams and strategies. In today's competitive climate, effective promotion is essential for engaging communities and attracting visitors. If we hope to foster lasting connections and encourage attendance at future events, we must prioritise effective communication and outreach efforts. #artexhibition #artinstallation #artist #birmingham #marketing

Green Dreams—Art for Earth Exhibition @ New York has been successfully hosted at New Colors Academy in Long Island, NY. 🥰🤩🥳 Spring Zheng as a volunteer organizer and sponsor for this exhibition, emphasized that as parents we encourage our kids and more youths to contribute their services and values to society as responsible citizens. Instead of attending more academic and extracurricular contests for awards, social services and community projects like this are more meaningful for kids' growth in their arts, creativity, leadership, and values. Ambrose, a 12th grader from Brooklyn Tech High School, presented biking healthy lifestyle and safety presentation and his photography of NYC through biking. Athenia L, a 10th grader from LaGuardia Arts High School, led the art craft workshop on site, wrote an article for the event (included in the description of the video), and marked at the end of this highlight video: "Change takes time, but every little act grows into something bigger. So let's start small and work our way up." https://lnkd.in/erKUUXRP This global project is ongoing. Our earth is in our own hands. We are blessed creators and protectors of it! ******* #ArtforEarth, #Exhibition, #EnvironmentProtection, #Arts, #GreenDreams, #NewYork, #CityEnvironment, #Lifemeaning, #Wellbeing, #Health, #Youth, #SocialProject, #SpringZheng, #Coaching, #Mentoring, #NonProfit, #Volunteer, #Sponsor, #GlobalYouthPhilanthropy, #Worktogether, #Blessing, #Leadership, #Citizenship, #Entrepreneurship, #Community, #Empowerment, #Transformation, #Abundance
