In the past four years, 290 licensure compacts have been enacted, spanning 46 American states, Washington D.C. and three territories. In 2023, 57 pieces of compact legislation were enacted, with six new compacts becoming available for states to enact. The National Center for Interstate Compacts, housed within The Council of State Governments, played a role in the development of all active licensure compacts. Today the key operative provisions of the Incorporated Societies Act 2022 (Act) came into force crystallising the process for existing incorporated societies to re-register under the Act. Existing incorporated societies now have a two and a half year period from today until 5 April 2026 to re-register as an incorporated society under the Act (and if they fail to do so within that time they will cease to exist). NEGATIVE SIDE EFFECTS CAUSED BY PLACEBOS? A letter in the The New York Times by Mike Bernstein argued that #vaccine hesitancy could be because of the #nocebo effect (the effect of expecting something bad to happen): https://lnkd.in/gk9wV4E3 Our study found that half of people in clinical trials who take #placebos (like sugar pills) experience at least one negative side effect: https://lnkd.in/ekwqribw Most of these are not nocebo effects, but caused by misattribution, but about a third are likely to be nocebo effects. #Nocebos are fascinating and a definitive review of their history, effects, and related ethical issues can be found in my recent book: https://lnkd.in/eEYk2fXP Hopkins Press University of Leicester Stoneygate Centre for Empathic Healthcare University of Oxford Cardiff University / Prifysgol Caerdydd University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust NIHR Applied Research Collaboration (ARC) East Midlands #DoctorYou #Empathy #Motivation #DocteurVous #medicalhumanities #philosophy #placebo #empathy #compassion #medicalschool #communication #systematicreview #evidencebasedmedicine #students #curriculum #safety #patient

The legal regime governing incorporated societies in New Zealand has undergone a major overhaul, and all societies will need to re-register under the new rules from October 2023. One way in which your society may need to bring itself up to code is in reviewing its composition, including its membership, governance structure and officer roles and responsibilities. Learn more about this process in our latest blog post.
