🆕 As a strategic initiative under IGTP, GCAT - Genomes for life continues to make substantial contributions to public health knowledge. The latest GCAT study, conducted through the #COVICAT initiative and signed by Ximena Goldberg and de Cid Rafael, sheds light on the complex interplay between genetic predispositions and environmental stressors in determining depression risk, especially during the COVID-19 lockdown. Published in Scientific Reports (Springer Nature Group). 📊 Key findings: - Social and behavioural stressors identified as main contributors to depression risk. - Comprehensive risk model explains 16.9% of the variance in depression severity. - Potential buffering effect of environmental stressors on genetic predispositions. 🗣 "The findings from our study highlight the importance of considering both genetic and environmental factors when addressing depression risk," says Rafael de Cid. "This comprehensive approach allows us to develop more effective public health interventions that can mitigate the impact of depression on our communities." 🔗 Learn more: https://lnkd.in/d4P4_8HZ Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal) Instituto Hospital del Mar de Investigaciones Médicas (IMIM) Agència de Qualitat i Avaluació Sanitàries de Catalunya (AQuAS) #CIBERESP #CIBERSAM #MentalHealth #COVID19 #PublicHealth

📖 👓 #Today’s study: Spain’s growing obesity problem We showcased our data-driven weight loss solution at a few of Spain’s key health innovation events in innovative #Catalonia #4yfn24 & #mwc2024, and Barcelona Health Hub’s #Healthrevolutioncongress. 🇪🇸 We saw an amazing response and here’s why: obesity is a pressing issue in Spain. This recent study, shared below by Renato Romani MD MBA, shows alarming rates by province of up to 28% obesity and 76% overweight. And it’s not just Spain, similar trends are seen everywhere around the world 🌎. “More than half of the adult population in Spain has excess weight and almost one out of five residents in the country has obesity.” “The observed geographical variability suggests the need to implement regional and local interventions to effectively address this public health problem.” To join us in achieving this effectiveness, and learn more about our innovative, friendly, data-driven solutions for #healthprofessionals to help reduce world obesity and promote healthier lifestyles, visit our website: https://lnkd.in/dPr8kag #science #obesity #Spain #Innovation #Tech #technology #startup #motivation #health #dietitian #predictiveanalytics #personalizedmedicine #ai
Recently we were in Barcelona, talking about health revolution with Barcelona Health Hub. So many new technologies and obesity still growing. In Spain, obesity by province ranged 13.3–27.4% in men and 11.4–28.1% in women; excess weight ranged 57.2–76.0% in men and 38.9–59.5% in women Imagine! some regions has 76% people with excess weight. We could show statistics about our data-driven weight loss program. Increasing adherence to the program in 5x is not a lucky guess, it is behavior science with human physiology. Soon we will start our activities in Spain and work to change that numbers! https://lnkd.in/edMTsSY2

This is a highly important topic. Unfortunately, low and middle-income countries do not allocate enough attention to it. From my perspective, prolonged post-COVID, specifically post-viral fatigue, needs to be observed from various angles. Firstly, considering bioenergetics, we should examine whether our bodies have a proper supply of energy, especially in the brain. Previously, a few papers were published concerning brain creatine and post-viral fatigue syndrome. Secondly, possibly connected to energy production, we should explore mitochondrial health. Mitochondrial dysfunction has been linked with various neurodegenerative disorders. Lastly, the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory systems may be disrupted after a viral condition, indicating the need for additional research in this area. Undoubtedly, these issues must be studied more in the future, as there are likely more than 100 million people worldwide suffering from post-viral fatigue conditions. #GlobalHealth #PostViralFatigue #ResearchPriority #MitochondrialHealth #PublicHealthChallenge https://lnkd.in/gj_UNnPV

We're excited to announce you can now book your seat for our upcoming Masterclass with Dr. Leo Pruimboom, pioneer of clinical psychoneuroimmunology, Rob Verkerk PhD and the ANH team in London on Friday 17th November. This is a unique opportunity to learn and interact with two of the most visionary thought leaders in the regenerative health field today. What: 'From irritation to low grade inflammation; the universal pathway of chronic disease'. Stress is only stress when it irritates long enough to produce a molecular pattern that activates the immune system. In this way it becomes logical that toxic emotions or toxic thoughts can make you ill. The conventional view of health and disease has forgotten that a disease is the consequence of a universal phenomenon called 'Life'. So to unravel the film of every malady, it is necessary to identify the stressors and pathways by which ‘irritation’ causes inflammation. From here, we can learn how to change 'Life', along with our responses and behaviours, to reduce or eliminate inflammation and become robust, as nature intended. Where: The China Exchange, London (in China Town) Times: 9am registration - 5.30pm This is an in-person event, but it will be livestreamed and recorded. A gluten and dairy free lunch will be provided along with refreshments throughout the day. https://lnkd.in/e3RCv7ut #psychoneuroimmunology #cpni #pni #lifemedicine #naturalhealth

What can we learn from the race to solve dehydration? “A solution that can’t be applied is really no solution at all," says Richard Cash, Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health doctor credited with preventing over 50 million cholera deaths. Read my latest in Harvard Magazine. #innovation #entrepreneurship #biotech
Cholera was once one of the most devastating pandemics worldwide. Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health's Dr. Richard Cash helped to save over 50 million with the invention of ORT (Oral Rehydration Therapy). Cash believes the story of ORT can inspire researchers today. First, to think simply. Sometimes, the most complex problems can be solved with the simplest solutions. Secondly, to find the innovations that ensure implementation. “A solution that can’t be applied,” Cash says, “is really no solution at all.” #harvard

🎉 Exciting News! 🎉 I am proud to announce the publication of our latest article in the Journal of Medical Internet Research (JMIR Publications): "Multicentric Assessment of a Multimorbidity-Adjusted Disability Score to Stratify Depression-Related Risks Using Temporal Disease Maps: Instrument Validation Study." This groundbreaking research introduces the Multimorbidity-Adjusted Disability Score (MADS), offering a novel methodology to integrate disease trajectory analyses and advanced techniques for assessing interdependencies among concurrent diseases into Health Risk Assessment strategies. Our goal is to better assess the clinical burden of clusters of interrelated diseases and enhance our ability to predict disease progression, ultimately informing targeted preventive care interventions. This accomplishment would not have been possible without the dedicated collaboration of an outstanding team of co-authors: Kangkana Mitra, Emili Vela, András Gézsi, Teemu Paajanen, Zsófia G., Gábor Hullám, Hannu Mäkinen, Tamas Nagy, Mikko Kuokkanen, Jordi Piera Jiménez, Josep Roca, Peter Antal, Gabriella Juhasz, Isaac Cano I would like to thank the TRAJECTOME project and the consortium for this incredible work. I am incredibly proud of what we've achieved together and look forward to this research's positive impact on health risk assessment and multimorbidity management. 📖 Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/dbzZXsfy #Multimorbidity #RiskAssessment #TRAJECTOME

Well done to coauthors and Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation and Davos Alzheimer's Collaborative A new model of Alzheimer’s predicts a staggering economic burden and justifies substantial investments in research, testing, treatments and public-health outreach 'Based on our willingness-to-pay approach, we estimate that the global economic burden of the disease in 2019 was roughly $2 trillion. By 2050, that burden will rise sharply to about $10 trillion and perhaps as high as $13.5 trillion. For comparison, world GDP is projected to be $228 trillion (inflation adjusted) in 2050.'
