Happy Juneteenth! ✊🏾 Even thought the Emancipation Proclamation was officially issued in 1863, it wasn't until June 19, 1865 that the last slaves were liberated in the US and slavery truly ended. And while Juneteenth was only recently declared a federal holiday in 2021, it has been long celebrated and recognized as a key milestone in US history. The significance of this day- the values of freedom and civil rights it stands for- are still an issue for the marginalized groups that need our voices and support to protect their rights 2024. Advocating for those who can't advocate for themselves is part of why we should all be voting this election year. Build the movement for a brighter future and vote for better civil protections this November!

An important read. With Fortune 100 CEOs being "warned" about the legality of DEI policies and practices, the real question to CEOs is, what will be the cost to the business if reversing such practices? What's the loss in market penetration? Shareholder returns? Employee retention? #businesstrends #leadership #ceos #economicgrowth
My latest piece for Politico, on the Republican assault on DEI programs and the culture warring politics at the heart of it. How shall a diverse nation overcome? https://lnkd.in/eakQuwnE

“Vote for me and don’t vote for the opposing candidate”. Vote for me because I know how to exploit your communal and religious sentiments”. “Vote for me because I prefer foreign policy over national policy”. I’m appalled to see the political campaign. I will not vote for anyone who uses the above rhetorics. I will vote for the candidate who Have a clear, well-developed vision for addressing the long-term needs and priorities of the nation. Demonstrate a commitment to upholding human rights both domestically and internationally. Advocate for a just and equitable society that does not condone injustice. Exhibit wisdom and thoughtfulness in their positions, not just empty words or slogans. Demonstrate integrity, rather than being swayed by emotional appeals or divisive rhetoric. Ultimately, the decision of who to vote for is a personal one that each citizen must make based on their values and preferences. But I would suggest people be sensible while casting their vote because emotions don't last but the consequences of the political policies do.

Anything that gets young people thinking, challenging the status quo or just standing up and sharing their experiences is right up my street... Check out this new programme #getinvolved from the Patchwork Foundation to learn more
Politics is very close to home for me - sometimes too close! And never more so than during this year’s 2024 global election super-cycle when more than 40% of the world’s population will be eligible to vote! In the UK, that means local and mayoral elections on May 2nd – and at some point a general election. It is a crucial year for young people across the country to get involved in politics and get their voices heard. I’m very proud to be a Trustee of the Patchwork Foundation, who help young people to actively participate in democracy and wider civil society. Crucially, they are focused on communities and individuals that are traditionally underrepresented. If you, like me, believe our democracy is only as great as the range of the voices within it, then please think about supporting them as a corporate partner. And for any young people looking to build their confidence and speaking skills, sign up to Patchwork's #GetInvolved programme to experience grassroots politics at one of our canvassing sessions - these are open to everyone, regardless of background https://lnkd.in/eGtEec64 #democracy #publicaffairs

Did you know? 🇺🇸 Only 5% of U.S. adults can correctly name all five First Amendment rights, according to the Annenberg Public Policy Center. Shockingly, 20% couldn't name any! This Memorial Day, as we honor the brave men and women who served our country, let’s also take a moment to reflect on the freedoms they fought to protect. Most Americans, 77%, can only recall Freedom of Speech. Let's commit to better understanding and exercising these vital rights. What are the other four First Amendment rights? Comment below if you know them! #ThinkingFreely #FirstAmendment #MemorialDay

Celebrating Bill of Rights Day - A Foundation of Freedoms Today, we commemorate Bill of Rights Day, marking the ratification of the first ten amendments to the U.S. Constitution. These amendments symbolize the foundational principles of freedom, justice, and democracy that we cherish. As the American Irish State Legislators Caucus, we recognize the profound impact of these rights on our society and celebrate the shared values that connect the United States and Ireland. #AISLC #AmericanIrish #BillOfRightsDay #Freedom #Democracy

🇺🇸 Embracing Civic Duty: Exercising the Right to Vote 🗳️ As an American citizen, I take great pride in our nation's rich history and the principles upon which it was founded. One of the fundamental rights bestowed upon us is the right to vote – a cornerstone of our democracy and a privilege that should never be taken for granted. Every time I step into the voting booth, I am reminded of the countless individuals who fought tirelessly for the freedoms we enjoy today. From suffragists who paved the way for women's suffrage to civil rights activists who championed equality for all, their sacrifices serve as a poignant reminder of the importance of civic engagement. By casting my ballot, I am not only honoring their legacy but also fulfilling my civic duty as a responsible citizen. It's a powerful expression of democracy in action – a voice for change, progress, and the values that define us as a nation. As we approach each election, I am reminded of the profound impact that every vote can have on shaping the future of our country. Whether it's at the local, state, or national level, each election offers us the opportunity to make our voices heard and to stand up for the issues that matter most to us. So let us embrace our role as active participants in the democratic process, and let us never forget the privilege and responsibility that comes with being an American citizen. Together, we can continue to uphold the ideals of freedom, justice, and equality that make our nation great. #ProudAmerican #VotingMatters #CivicDuty 🇺🇸🗳️
