I support organisations to succeed: Employee Retention Strategist | 38 Years Corporate Experience | Keynote Speaker | Public speaking | Corporate Trainer | 5X Best Selling Author
The other day, the local Rotary Club with which I am associated embarked on a special project that combined artistry, environmental consciousness, and community engagement. We organized an eco-friendly Lord Ganesh idol-making session for students from Class 2 to 4, and the results were nothing short of inspiring! The session was guided by a skilled trainer from Shanti Niketan, who not only taught the children the art of making these beautiful idols but also shared the science behind using eco-friendly materials. The children learned about the significance of each part of Lord Ganesh's form, connecting the creative process to cultural and spiritual values. The enthusiasm of the young participants was truly contagious. Their excitement in crafting their idols was so vibrant that it even encouraged the adults present to join in and try their hand at idol-making. The smiles on the children’s faces and the infectious energy they brought with them highlighted a profound lesson: enthusiasm and a willingness to learn can bridge generations and inspire innovation. Key Takeaways for Adults: 1. Embrace Curiosity: Just like the children who eagerly learned about eco-friendly materials and cultural significance, staying curious and open to new experiences can rejuvenate our creativity and passion. 2. Lead by Example: By engaging actively and with enthusiasm, adults can set a powerful example for younger generations. Our participation showed that learning and growth are lifelong journeys. 3. Foster Community Spirit: Activities like these strengthen community bonds and highlight the importance of collective learning. It is a reminder that we can all contribute to a greater good and inspire one another. Gratitude to everyone who participated and made this event memorable. Let us carry forward the lessons learned and continue to nurture creativity, eco-consciousness, and community spirit in all our endeavours! When was the last time a child sparked a spontaneous reaction from you? #EcoFriendly #CommunityEngagement #CreativeLearning #SustainableLiving

Last week marked the end of the 8-month-long “$5 Smart Meals” campaign ☘ for the 2023/24 academic year. After planning for one and a half years, It also marks the successful implementation of a vision to empower social change and address the pressing issues of sustainability and affordability that our current generation faces. I was elected Vice President External of the Students’ Union Okanagan’s (SUO of UBC) in April 2023. I collaborated with sustainability and food system experts such as Dr. Mary Stockdale, Dr. Eric Li, and Shiven Vinod Khera to address food security issues and align our efforts with UBCO’s Climate Action Plan 2030. A notable outcome of this collaboration was the launching of the “$5 Smart Meals” campaign, which I led through the SUO’s Campaigns Committee. In case you are still wondering what this is about, the “$5 Smart Meals” campaign—a subsidy program to provide students with affordable, nutritious, plant-based meals 🥗 —encourages socially responsible choices and promotes food security and well-being among students. The campaign began in September 2023, providing affordable meal options every Wednesday and partnering with four on-campus food vendors. In January 2024, the campaign expanded to provide these meals every Tuesday and Thursday. It has been a long and fruitful journey filled with immense learnings and challenges that I aim to share in my next few posts – A small gesture to inspire more young leaders from our campus and throw light on the impactful and pioneering work happening on the UBC Okanagan campus 💚 Credits: Poster design by Becca Evans and Kelly Yuste #ubc #ubcokanagan #students #advocacy #socialentrepreneurship #studentsunion #leadership #impact #sustainability #foodsecurity #affordability #mentalhealth #plantbased #campaign #ubcostudents
