MSc via Research in the Nonlinear Photonics & Dynamics group University College Cork. BSc Physics at UCC.
My first academic paper has been published! In this paper, we demonstrate a new optical frequency comb source using gain switching. My contribution being the study of a rate equation model to further understand the dynamics at play in the device. I'd like to thank the co-authors on this paper, especially John McCarthy, for the collaboration. Read our paper here in Optica: https://bit.ly/3DYNLxc

Lecturer at CSE at University of Information Technology and Sciences. B.Sc. in CSE from Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET)
I'm thrilled to share that my conference paper has been officially published in IEEE Xplore! 📚✨ My paper delves into the critical realm of optical character recognition (OCR), specifically addressing the challenge of effectively segmenting words in handwritten Bangla text images. While OCR systems are readily available for various languages, finding a reliable solution for Bangla, especially for handwritten text, is particularly challenging. Our approach is designed to be versatile and applicable to images captured by smartphones, irrespective of factors such as paper color and ink type. Recognizing potential challenges posed by smartphone-captured images, such as shadow interferences, we meticulously crafted a custom dataset that encompasses various real-world obstacles. I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to my co-authors, mentors, and everyone who supported me along the way. Your guidance and encouragement have been invaluable. I'm excited about the potential impact of this research and look forward to continuing this journey of discovery. If you're interested in learning more, feel free to reach out or check out the paper on IEEE Xplore. This will allow students to present and discuss their dissertation research with experts from both academia and industry who work on reconfigurable hardware, related tools, and applications. The forum is also a great opportunity to explore future career opportunities in an informal setting (have your CV ready). The goal of the FCCM Ph.D. Forum is to provide a comprehensive venue for students to better prepare for their research while enjoying the FCCM conference and many associated workshops, tutorials, and Demo Night. The Ph.D. Forum will comprise a poster presentation, where the participating students will have the opportunity to disseminate their work to the broader FCCM community. Poster Abstract Ph.D. Forum abstracts are limited to 2 pages in IEEETran, 10 pt, 2-column conference format including all references. A LaTeX template is available: https://lnkd.in/ekJqJpCh. The title must start with “Ph.D. Project …” and the author list should only include the Ph.D. candidate and the Advisor’s Name(s) together with the Affiliation(s) and email addresses. · Abstract · Problem and Motivation: What problem do you solve in your Ph.D. project and why is it exciting? · Background and Related Work: use this also to highlight what is missing and how you are going to improve state-of-the-art. · Approach and Uniqueness: How are you going to attack the problem and how is your approach novel? · Preliminary Results (if applicable) · Expected Results and Contributions: What are the expected outcomes and how will those enable/enrich the community, an application domain or a broader ecosystem? Deadlines · Deadline: March 30th, 2024, 11:59 pm AoE · Accept/Reject Notification: within 10 days of submission (the earlier you submit, the earlier you may get accepted) · Final Camera Ready Abstract Due: April 20, 2024 Email your submission to [email protected]. Email Subject: FCCM 2024 PhD Forum [Student_Name] Mail Body: 1. Name of the Student: 2. Department: 3. University: 4. Advisor’s Name: PDF Attachment Names: 1. Abstract: <student_name>.pdf (Only PDF will be accepted for review) 2. The presentation of our #ResearchHardware definition proposal raised expected edge case question: Should model organisms, mycelium or bacteria fall under this definition? Let us know during the public review period. https://lnkd.in/eMzUf7vC Answers to such questions become relevant for researchers creating physical objects as their research output, for example, at Matters of Activity. Image Space Material
The RDA FAIR Principles for Research Hardware Interest Group has released a new supporting output that proposes a definition for research hardware. This follows a review and discussion about the related concept of open (source) hardware, scientific hardware, other hardware in research, and related research outputs. It also references the relation between research hardware and its package of (digital) assets that may include hardware design files, software, documentation, and branding. All RDA members interested in the topic are encouraged to review this definition and provided comments by 15 April on the RDA website. https://lnkd.in/eaDxkTVc

Making a difference, in business, on projects and in the lives of those with chronic illness, multiple chemical sensitivities and electrohypersensitivity.
Once you start immersing yourself in the research on the possible health effects of cell phones, wireless devices, smart watches etc, one can't help by wonder why (1) the medical fraternity is not educated on this, it does not form part of any of medical curriculum, and (2) why governments have not taken action to implement safety precautions...It is just mind blowing....in the current series of interviews, Prof Olle Johansson from Sweden, a world leader on research on the health effects of EMF and myself, explore the history of research from the 80's https://lnkd.in/djW2Qr3c If you want to be IN THE KNOW and not in the DARK, make some time to watch this or go to www.on-route.co.za for links to research.

⚡ Professor A. David Wunsch reviews my book, Power-Lined, in the September issue of IEEE Technology and Society Magazine: "Reading Wuebben’s work is a rich experience. One particular strength lies in his showing how power and telegraph lines appear in places one would not expect." Reading the review reminded me of threads I'd almost forgotten ("Hmmm, that's interesting...wait, I wrote that!) and means it's probably time for a new project on the design and rhythm of electric infrastructure. Please reach out if you'd like a PDF of the review or select book chapters, or a guest lecture about the wiring of landscapes and minds. https://lnkd.in/dNJ7raPM
