Renewable energy sources like solar power often produce surplus electricity. To address this, a proposed system combines hydrogen generation and battery storage: 1. Hydrogen Generation: Using a 4.5 kW PEM hydrogen electrolysis system, surplus electricity splits water into hydrogen and oxygen. 2. Battery Backup: A lithium-ion battery stores energy when hydrogen isn’t immediately available. 3. Fuel Cell: The PEM hydrogen fuel cell directly supplies power to consumers. While initial costs may be high, this integrated approach ensures stable operation and contributes to a greener future. #RenewableEnergy #HydrogenStorage

Optimal size ratios for solar, wind-powered hydrogen production: Researchers in Italy outlined a new model for estimating hydrogen production cost as a function of the plant’s component sizes. They tested both PV, wind, and hybrid production of hydrogen to determine the optimal size ratio for the 2030-2050 period. They also found that PV-powered hydrogen may currently achieve a levelized cost of hydrogen of €5.11/kg in Italy, with a PV ratio of 2.2. #Renewables #Energy #Technology

"#Electrolysers have not fully demonstrated that they are compatible with #intermittent #renewables" "Electrolysers must therefore be highly flexible — able to produce hydrogen when the electricity input is high or low, and be able to ramp up or down accordingly. And of course, the more hours an electrolyser is in operation, the lower the levelised cost of green H2 (ie, over the course of a project’s lifetime). However, according to a new analyst note from research house BloombergNEF (BNEF), electrolysis systems — which use electricity to split water molecules into hydrogen and oxygen — have not yet proven that they can work effectively with variable renewable energy." https://lnkd.in/eHuWcUyM

It is a multifactor puzzle that will require many iterations and a holistic approach to coordinate renewable electricity generation, hydrogen production, and consumption."
