✨Huge congratulations to Institute for Ethics in Artificial Intelligence - TUM for launching the International AI and Human Rights Summit, in collaboration with Globethics. 🙏 Yesterday, we had the opportunity to network with experts in the field of AI, Human Rights and Ethics, and discuss about the first steps we shall take to develop a convention to prevent and mitigate human rights violations related to AI development. ✌🏻I was fascinated by Marcello Ienca talk regarding AI Ethics and Neuroscience. Marcello conducts research on the ethically sustainable development of AI systems and neurotechnologies. He delved in the topic in plain language, explaining the issues that arise due to AI applications and noted the importance of making careful steps, in order to benefit society. 🙏Moreover, Amb.Prof.Muhammadou M.O. Kah, Ph.D dived into the spectrum of ethical issues that arise due to AI applications in less than 15 minutes, without losing a single detail, thing that is beyond admirable. ✨Sarah Hechler explained the issues that arise regarding AI and Hhman Rights, adding a corporate perspective, which is pivotal, in order to understand real life applications. 💫Last, I wanna thank Caitlin Corrigan for her warm welcome, her guidance and for giving me the opportunity to be part of such an important attempt. #ai #humanrights #bioethics #tum #technology #germany #ethics

The dream of utilitarianism is becoming true with deep reinforcement learning. If we are able to approximately simulate real world situations, as Stanford researchers are doing, we can estimate the policy that maximizes an utility such as common good for all the agents. Sara Lumbreras and I explore this idea in our paper: From computational ethics to morality: how decision-making algorithms can help us understand the emergence of moral principles, the existence of an optimal behaviour and our ability to discover it. What seems important to me is the fact that it is humanity who can manage this new technology. The papal document does well to speak of 'artificial intelligences' in the plural, to relativise their impact and at the same time to foster a sensitivity that involves the whole of society. As for the Rome Call for AI Ethics, a document intended for all, it has also been signed by Jews and Muslims; next July, in Hiroshima, Japan, it will also be signed by the other great world religions. In the meantime, thirty American and Italian universities have signed, and on 21 September the 200 universities of Latin America gathered in Rome also signed. It is decisive that an ethical and legal sensibility is developed so that the new technologies are at the service of human development of our Earth.

In the 2020 article by Silviya Serafimova, "Whose morality? Which rationality? Challenging artificial intelligence as a remedy for the lack of moral enhancement," we are prompted to question the boundaries of ethics in artificial intelligence (AI). Published in Humanities and Social Sciences Communications, the research addresses the complex issue of whether it is possible or even desirable to create AI capable of moral reasoning based on ethical theories such as Kantianism, utilitarianism, and virtue ethics. The article challenges the notion that AI can serve as a remedy for human moral failings, sparking essential debates about the nature of intelligence and morality. I just found it today, and it feels more relevant than ever.
