🚢 Exciting news in the maritime industry! The U.S. Navy has unveiled plans to retire 48 ships between 2022-2026, marking a significant shift in naval strategy and resource allocation. These plans, now up for legislative consideration, include transferring vessels to MARAD, Foreign Military Sales (FMS), or recycling. This strategic move reflects the Navy's commitment to modernization and optimization, ensuring that resources are efficiently utilized to meet evolving defense needs. It also opens up opportunities for collaboration and partnership both domestically and internationally. Cooperation between the allied democracies hasn't been more essential in 80 years. However, when I see these large-scale naval exercises, I think we are fighting the last war, not preparing for the one already upon us. Have we learned nothing from Ukraine? Nothing from our intelligence on China's military development? Grand fleet manoeuvers make excellent targets for Chinese ship-buster missiles and the new class of air, surface, and underwater sea drones. The US carrier group in the Red Sea can't defeat the Houthis. How will the Grand Fleet defeat the China/Russia/Iran axis? A carrier group's operating range is about 500 miles. A Chinese carrier-buster missile has a range of 750 miles. Only one has to hit. And they are much cheaper than a carrier, a naval fighter plane, or a defensive missile. The NATO nations are ramping up their defense spending, and justifiably so. However, a massive percentage of that spending will do nothing to make the free world safer. Indeed, it is a distraction from accelerating the development of the systems that will make the free world safer. Time to wake up. Rich Porreco and I were given a ‘first look’ of a 26-Ac defense manufacturing industrial site under development and slated for completion in late-2025. This industrial site will serve as a future home to occupiers & contractors that service the 32nd St Naval Base - home to the Pacific Fleet & 2nd largest Naval Base in the United States. The Pentagon and VA spending pumped $56.4 billion into the San Diego economy in 2023, according to this year's Military Impact Report. Cresa #industrialrealestate
