The significance of our recent Everest Experiment at BattleLab should not be underestimated. Some 250 stakeholders witnessed first hand what can be accomplished in short order through the rapid integration of multi-vendor systems and equipment using open and/or software programmable interfaces to provide a common operating picture (COP) and resilient voice/data networks. Project Everest resonates with the changing tide around faster procurement moving from exquisite top-down to agile/spiral bottom-up. 30 years ago the barrier to such solutions was technology, now we just need to decide what is required and move forward to bring step changes in operational benefit to the warfighter at pace. NATO Maritime Command (MARCOM) concluded its two-week anti-submarine and anti-surface warfare exercise Dynamic Mongoose 24 in Reykjavik, Iceland, May 10. Units from Canada, Denmark, the Faroe Islands, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, the United Kingdom, and the United States converged for the highly complex maritime exercise that kicked off April 29 in Stavanger, Norway. This year, for the first time since its accession on March 7, Sweden participated in the exercise as a full NATO member nation, bringing the advanced technology and stealth of one of its Gotland-class submarines. Sweden last participated in Dynamic Mongoose in 2015 as a NATO partner nation. The Gotland-class submarines of the Swedish Navy are modern diesel-electric submarines, which were designed and built by the Saab in Sweden. They are the first submarines in the world to feature a Stirling engine air-independent propulsion (AIP) system, which extends their underwater endurance from a few days to weeks. 🇺🇸 #US military has demonstrated the capability to transmit Link 16 tactical data lines from space, a development expected to revolutionize military operations in the Indo-Pacific region. Link 16 is a military tactical data link network used by #NATO members and other nations. Link 16 enables military aircraft, ships, and ground forces to exchange their tactical picture in near-real time; it also supports the exchange of text messages, imagery, and voice (the latter on two digital channels: 2.4 kbit/s or 16 kbit/s in any combination). This breakthrough comes as part of efforts to counter #China's formidable Anti-Access/Area Denial (A2/AD) strategy, designed to keep US forces at bay in the event of a conflict, particularly over Taiwan.
