The idea of living life to the fullest, for many, is a distant dream. Someone who battles everyday to fulfill basic physiological needs cannot afford the luxury of enjoying life. The thought of lifting people above the empowerment line is what motivated us to provide better livelihoods. We signed off on our Fair Living Wage (FLW) commitment knowing that it was an ambitious goal. While we set out on our journey to convert our entire extended value chain from minimum to living wage, we were aware that there was only so much change that we can bring alone. Our Livable Independence Campaign on Aug. 14th was an attempt to share with the world, the struggles of a person who earns a minimum wage. The campaign featured a social experiment where people from different walks of life chose between necessities such as food, health and education limiting to a budget of 32,000 Rupees. It successfully drove conversation and interest amongst changemakers. However, when I attempted the experiment myself, I found the experience, although quite unsettling, but much more impactful than just viewing the campaign video as an outsider. It really is impossible to pick between paying for your kids’ meals, their education, medicine of your parents or rent. You understand the magnitude of this challenge when you #WalkInTheirShoes. Grateful to Paul Keijzer and his team at @The Talent Games who helped us achieve just that; a chance for everyone to step into the shoes of a person earning minimum wage and experience what it feels like to make compromises on bare necessities. Take the challenge yourself and decide if you would like to join us on our #FairLivingWage ambition. https://lnkd.in/dMZmdkjf #UnileverForPakistan #FarLivingWage #LivableIndepende

Moving living wage forward faster . Improving the lives of the most vulnerable among us — including those living in poverty — is an overarching theme across all of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). For many workers, a job does not provide a way out of poverty for them and their families. Ensuring that all workers are paid a living wage that enables them to meet their basic needs — supporting themselves and their families to a standard that is universally considered decent — is fundamental to ensuring a people-centered sustainability approach that leaves no one behind . A living wage or living income is the benchmark income level that allows people to enjoy a decent standard of living as stated in Article 25 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Today, more than a billion working people worldwide are estimated to earn less than they need to afford a decent standard of living, including sufficient food, water, housing, education, health care, transportation, clothing and other essential needs — an amount known as a living wage or income. These people make up approximately one-third of all workers covered by International Labour Organization (ILO) statistics and more than half of all small-scale farmers worldwide Read more :The action guides for the Forward Faster English : https://lnkd.in/gDEHUupK Thai : https://lnkd.in/gbHN9VaJ

We have an unprecedented opportunity to make our systems better and cleaner. But it will only happen if we make them fairer too. There is no justifiable reason for businesses not to use living wage benchmarks writes Namit Agarwal, Social Transformation Lead at the World Benchmarking Alliance, who looks at working poverty and how essential it is for people to be paid fairly for the work they do over on our blog. https://bit.ly/3R6aRJn #RealLivingWage #Benchmarks #WorkingPoverty Living Wage Foundation

This June, the next Living Wage and Living Income Summit will take place. To make real strides towards living wages and living income in global value chains IDH, GIZ, and with sponsorship from the UN Global Compact, will bring together over 400 key actors from the private and public sector, including producers, buyers, unions and more, to effect change through responsible business practices, policy instruments, and social dialogue. We have seen steps of progress to address living wage and living income gaps through joint public and private sector actions, engagement by producers and buyers, and social dialogue and collective bargaining. The topics are also being embraced by due diligence regulation and multilateral organisations. We need to debate how best to benefit from recent milestones achieved by organisations like the ILO and the EU. We need to foster dialogue and share practical insights on what works when it comes to closing of living wage and income gaps. We need to share different perspectives from the supply chain on these topics. We believe that living wages and incomes are essential to achieving sustainable economic development. At the next Living Wage and Living Income Summit 2024 we will make strides towards a future with fairer value chains. The Living Wage & Living Income Summit 2024 will take place on the 26th June in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Check out the event webpage to see the full agenda and the first lineup of speakers who will be joining us at the Summit. https://lnkd.in/ehc2nTD4 #LivingIncome #LivingWage #Collaboration Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH IDH United Nations Global Compact UN Global Compact Network Netherlands

We are pleased to welcome Anna from Living Wage Scotland, which informs an important part of our discussion on adequate incomes. @LivingWageScot Anna highlighted some important stats from their 'Life on low pay' report, looking at the impacts of living on a low wage, which addresses some of the struggles that 3.5 million low-paid workers face. Through this survey, it was highlighted that 39% revealed skipping meals for financial reasons, with 55% undertaking more work to make further income. #CPW23 #ChallengePovertyWeek23 @CPW_Scotland
