Ensuring a living income respects fundamental human rights, allowing all actors in the supply chain to live with dignity. The Income Driver Calculator is a great tool, and it will hopefully support many companies’ efforts in creating effective strategies to assess and close the living income gap:

Advancing the living wage and living income space is challenging due to numerous obstacles, diverse stakeholders, and siloed approaches. Last week at the Living Wage & Living Income Summit 2024, over 400 stakeholders shared a mission to drive progress. We closed the day with inspiration. Numerous contributors shared milestones and innovations in the living wage and living income space. Yesterday, the Platform Living Wage Financials (PLWF) published its 2022-2023 report which presents the annual assessments of investee companies on their progress towards facilitating living wages and income in their global supply chains. The PLWF is a coalition of 20 financial institutions representing EUR 6.6 trillion AUM, including Fondation Ethos and the members of the Ethos Engagement Pool International, that engage and encourage investee companies to address the non-payment of living wages and incomes in global supply chains. While the Platforms sees a positive development on living wages and income policy, guidelines, and responsible purchasing practices, the evidence of implementa­tion on the ground is still lacking. ❗ New working paper ❗ In WP 15 Dinara Alpysbayeva and Oddbjørn Raaum examine whether access to timely unemployment insurance transfers during the COVID-19 pandemic effectively targeted the intended groups or instead attracted mainly financially literate households. PROPOSAL TO COMPLEMENT THE METHODOLOGY TO DESIGN COMPENSATION SCHEMES There is a need to emphasize the importance of deepening the work on the demand side so that it is the households themselves that request assistance to resolve their issues and needs. Progress is already being observed in this sense, it has been understood that the best results are those that show a balance between what the State can offer (supply side) and how it can facilitate and help households solve their challenges and problems (demand side). Therefore, it is necessary to work on both fronts, covering the internal and external needs of the household equally to reduce the high levels of stress and uncertainty in the short term and, increase its well-being in the medium and long term. SOPROEN proposes a work methodology that not only identifies community-related projects and service needs of these communities but also identifies the individual needs from the demand side. Knowing these basic elements, it is then possible to propose the implementation of a series of actions that ultimately end up increasing the levels of well-being of these communities. Some countries are still not convinced by implementing a universal basic income. However, with the right technologies in place, perhaps a system could be developed to ensure the access to funds can be made easier. For example, earned wage access providers like Paywatch, DailyPay, Inc. and such could help governments in the allocation of funds for universal basic income. #earnedwageaccess #universalbasicincome
