It was a good day spent with the #industry and #MSME of #Haryana at #Rohtak. The discussions were held with the aim of integrating the #startups #msme #innovators and #industry with the global #aerospace and #defence supply chain. The initiative of Ministry of Defense, Government of India with help from PHD Chamber of Commerce and MIDHANI-Min. Of Defence will help in industry to grow at the grassroots level. The healthy participation from Atharva Poundarik Indian Institute of Technology, Ropar, Mr Prakash P Maheskar from DDP, Mr Subhadip Ghosh of MIDHANI, Hyderabad, Wg Cdr Vivek Sharma of DIO-Airforce, Mr Gautam Sharma Ordnance Cable Factory, Chandigarh and Mr Naresh Kumar Jain of MSME Technology Park, Rohtak made it an interesting session on defence industry academia partnership for fostering growth of MSME and Startups in this field. Technological changes happen at the speed of tracer bullets. One sector that has to stay on top of its game despite such changes is the defence sector. Innovations for Defence Excellence (iDEX) scheme launched in 2018 has managed to tap into the startup scene in the country and helped our soldiers stay in step with the many modern requirements of the army. Hundreds of startups have taken up challenges offered by the defence forces, and their products and services are now becoming a part of future defence strategies. A lot has been happening in the defence sector lately. Listed companies' stock prices are making fresh all-time highs. Now, startups in the defence sector have a great opportunity as well. Ajay Kumar (retired defence secretary) has set up his VC fund named Kavachh. Exciting opportunity for Indian startups and innovators in defense technology! The 11th edition of the Defence India Start-up Challenge (DISC) was launched by Hon'ble Defence Minister during DefConnect 2024 in March 2024. Under the flagship Defence India Startup Challenge (DISC) program of iDEX Defence Innovation Organization, specific challenges are launched to attract innovative ideas. All applicants are put through a rigorous and transparent system to select grant winners, which get technical support and SPARK grants of up to Rs 1.5 cr. It has 22 Problem Statements from Tri-Services and DPSUs for resolution by startups & innovators. The objective is to establish India as Atmanirbhar, support the development of technology and product prototypes that are pertinent to national security (prototyping), and encourage rapid innovation in the Indian defense industry. The anticipated outcome is the development of innovative products that address the 22 Problem Statements issued by the Armed Forces and DPSUs as part of DISC 11. What do you have when a former defense secretary, a former Indian Air Force chief, a former Indian Navy vice chief and a former electronics and mechanical engineers (EME) director-general join hands. Ajay Kumar, a former bureaucrat who retired as India's defense secretary in 2022, has entered into the world of venture capital. He is now the chairman of Mount Tech Growth Fund, a venture capital firm that has already raised over ₹250 crore in its first round, aptly named "Kavach". The fund has already secured approval from the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI). The fund has onboarded retired armed forces officers, including former Indian Air Force chief RKS Bhadauria, former Indian Navy vice chief SN Ghormade, electronics and mechanical engineers (EME) director-general Lt. Gen Anil Kapur along with other industrialists and business professionals. The fund focuses on investing in startups operating in the fields of defense, deep tech, aerospace, and space.
