The Zero Trust Security Model is a cybersecurity approach that operates on the principle of "never trust, always verify." Unlike traditional security models that focus on defending the perimeter of a network, Zero Trust assumes that threats can come from both outside and inside the network. Here are the key principles of Zero Trust: 1. **Verify Explicitly:** Always authenticate and authorize based on all available data points, including user identity, location, device health, and service or workload. 2. **Use Least Privilege Access:** Limit user and device access to only what is necessary, reducing the risk of lateral movement within the network if a device or user is compromised. 3. **Assume Breach:** Design your security strategy with the assumption that a breach has already occurred or will occur. Each segment requires separate access controls and security policies. 5. **Device Health Attestation:** Ensure devices meet security standards and are free from vulnerabilities before granting access to resources. 6. **Encrypt Everything:** Protect data in transit and at rest by using encryption to ensure confidentiality and integrity. Implementing a Zero Trust architecture involves a combination of technologies and practices, such as multi-factor authentication (MFA), identity and access management (IAM), endpoint security, network segmentation, and continuous monitoring.
