A great perspective on sports.
If I had my education to do over again, I would have made a lot of different decisions, but it is what it is and there were definitely some good things that came out of it. This is one from the University of Denver.

From improving student performance to assessing the superintendent’s leadership, school boards have many different responsibilities. It is that time of year again when high school seniors and their parents are thinking of their post high school education. Regardless of the their educational choices, the cost is going to be enormous. High School Seniors are actively applying for scholarship help in their communities. Many community service organizations offer scholarships. And, in many cases, those that excel in their high school studies and on the ACT & SAT exams usually have the inside track to receiving those scholarships. Here is a Rotary club in Texas that takes a slightly different approach to selecting students for the scholarships they offer. First of all, to qualify, students need to belong to their club sponsored Intereact Club. Why, because Interact provides the student experience that reinforces Rotary's focus on service to others, promoting integrity, advancing world understanding, goodwill, and peace as student leaders. The other unique feature of their scholaship is the post high school educational institution the students choose to attend can include 4 year programs, 2 year programs and trade schools. They want students to choose a school that will advance their chosen vocation. Check out the story below. This clubs scholarship is intended for Senior Interact club members at Fred Moore High School and Lake Dallas High School in Denton and Lake Dallas, Texas. As a Rotarian in the Outer Banks of North Carolina, my hope is that more organizations that award scholarships adopt a similar approach to selecting their scholarship recipients.

Are High School and Junior College athletic departments responsible for the transferring of their student-athletes to four-year colleges? A debatable topic and not lightly stated with the tremendouns amount of work and resources that takes. Any athletic director cares about the success of their student-athletes and wants to see them succeed and continue both their playing careers and education. What if you could provide every student-athlete with the ability to drive their own recruitment process and attain their dreams. This is how we help you do just that. https://lnkd.in/gGp9RXtD

Youth leaders and student pastors, having student athletes in your ministry can be frustrating at times when they have to start missing a lot for practices and games. Here are four things we need to do when navigating our student athletes. 1. Make sure they know they are welcome at services and events as their schedule allows. Many times, they feel like they can't come in because they'll have to answer for missing church or answer to their coach for missing practice. 2. Don't guilt them for decisions often beyond their control. Whether or not we agree with the schedules, the athletes don't make them. 3. Encourage and equip them to BE the church on their teams. Yeah, they may be missing services at times, but they have the opportunity to have an impact for the Kingdom significantly. 4. Stay connected with them for encouragement and accountability. Yes, make sure they know they've been missed, but attend games, check in on them, and offer conversations to help guide them. Share or tag a youth leader that may need this reminder. #leadership #disciplsehip #StudentLeadership #StudentAthletes

CFES Brilliant Pathways is an incredible organization. Their conference this past week offered fresh perspective for me as a member of the higher ed community. While CFES focuses on K-12 education, their work greatly impacts those of us who work in and with colleges and universities. The challenges and attitudes of the next generation will inevitably shape higher education in the years to come. One of my favorite things about the conference? Students! There were over 100 high schoolers present at the event. It created an entirely different, and welcome, dynamic.
