FIVE LESSONS from freshman year at Georgia Tech! 📉 YOU'LL LEARN TO FAIL. College is not easy. Despite taking a relatively "average" freshman year course load with 16 credit hours per semester, I struggled a whole lot, especially in spring semester. I remember studying for hours in the library, apartment lobby, dining hall, student center, only to flunk my Object-Oriented Programming final. Was I sad and disappointed? YES. Was I also grateful, though? A LOT! Because only through that failure that I know which areas I still have yet to improve! 💫 TAKE IN OPPORTUNITIES. No matter how crazy the opportunity sounds, I have never regret trying. In October 2023, I applied to be a TEDxGeorgiaTech speaker. If I let my self-doubt that said, "You're only a freshman on your first semester, don't even try" win, I would never know that I'd be selected as one of the four speakers. 🔊 LET YOURSELF BE KNOWN. Okay, this one may not be for everyone, but personally, I have received more benefits than ever through letting myself be known on social media and around campus. Around March, I posted a goofy parody reel, "2 Days Into College - GT Version." From that reel alone, a social media manager at Georgia Tech personally DM-ed me offering an on-campus job as a social media student assistant! I am beyond grateful - it was all for that one reel I posted. For real, your presence brings opportunities. Besides, with the power of technology in this era, it's really THAT easy to make an impact towards others - whether you're trying to teach something, argue for a cause, or simply be funny like me sometimes. 🏝 YOU'LL LOVE YOUR COUNTRY EVEN MORE! At least, this is what happened to me: High schooler Marie leaves Jakarta --> She arrives in the U.S. --> she realizes that it's not easy to get cheap, good Indonesian food in the U.S. --> she realizes other stuff she took for granted such as being able to speak a mix of both Indonesian and English, the abundance of malls, Indonesian songs, and once again, good food --> she returns to Jakarta at the end of the semester --> she loves her hometown even more now! :) 🤗 IT'S NOT AS SCARY AS YOU THINK! Seriously, I would yell this to 16-year-old Marie. As an international student from Indonesia, a country that's literally on the other side of the world, I worried endlessly about going abroad, living separately from my parents, and finding new friends. Guess what? Things flowed naturally and I survived! So, if you're currently anxious about a new adventure, don't worry - life will (somehow) force you to learn the things you need in order to survive! From the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU to all the friends, classmates, and upperclassmen I've met these past two semesters! You might not realize it but each one of you gave an impact and taught me something. I made a video where I reflect on the ups and downs of every single month of my first year. :)

Executive Vice President for Strategy & Innovation Vice President of Enrollment & Communication || Strategist || Leader || Innovator & Reinventor ||Talent Multiplier
The University of Chicago will be offering an EARLY Early Decision program beginning this fall. It's brilliant #admissions and #recruitment strategy and we can expect elite college across the country, which offer robust pre-college and talent identification programs, to follow along. The program is described on their website, but the short of it is they are inviting pre-college programs to apply ED earlier than other applicants. It's smart. It will incentivize participation in their pre-college programs. It will also further incentivize applying binding early decision. The EARLY Early Decision program might as well (and most likely will evolve into) be Direct Admit for program participants. I believe there is a very good possibility that when admissions rates are released (if they do so), they will look something like this: EARLY Early Decision admit rate: 75% Early Decision admit rate: 25% Regular Decision admit rate: < 10% Elite colleges with robust pre-college programs have always had an advantage because of their attractive programming and emphasis on fully utilizing their physical plant. Many have also launched online summer enrichment programs, too. Programs like EARLY Early Decision will only accelerate the market advantages of elites and the demand for these programs now that they are more transparently connected to admissions will explode, especially once they release admission rates. Again, this is brilliant admissions and recruitment strategy. #emchat #admissions #admission #highered #strategy

Happy Teachers Change the World. Research Fellow Royal Holloway at Royal Holloway, University of London
Semester 2 begins. Today it is 'Creative Social Media' for 2nd year Undergrads at Royal Holloway. My job as far as I can see it is take these GenZ marvels, and get them ready for the world of work. It is my dream for each of them to be earning more than me within 5 years of teaching. My own world of work started work the day before the Dotcom Crash. What does this mean? I've seen a lot. It means that I am optimistic for them. It means that I know that the best of social is 'Real people talking to Real People' it just happens to be via a computer. However, the platforms are now forgetting the people part. They are rewarding our dopamine receptors mostly and creating TikTok brains. Below are the stepping stones to telling good stories online. UNDERSTANDING CURATION UNDERSTANDING ALGORYTHMS UNDERSTANDING 6 SECOND FRAGMENTS UNDERSTANDING LAW OF RECIPROCITY UNDERSTANDING THE POWER OF SOCIAL CAPITAL UNDERSTANDING AUTHENTICITY UNDERSTANDING PATTERNS IN CHAOS CREATING DESIGN QUALITY MAXIMISING PLAY.

Disabled Individual searching for a remote/contract position in AI; Blended/distance/online learning, Instructional design, Training/learning, Kinesiology, Research, Early Childhood, Physical Ed/Sports, Health, Nutrition
You love STEM? Check out Dr. Joanne Margaret Hynes-Hunter's presentation "The STREAM Evolution that EMPARTS Scientific Learning through Fun Movement Activities," on Sunday April 7 at 9:30am for STEM con and Beyond (https://stemconbeyond.com/)! Is it time to level-up our STREAM game? While STREAM (Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Art, Math) education encourages learning by engaging various parts of the brain, let's take it up a notch by adding physical activity! Many students today don’t have enough movement in their day, which can contribute to (if not cause!) behavioral challenges and health issues. Dr. Hunter proposes a holistic learning approach where the mind and body work together. It’s called EMPARTS [Engineering, Math, Physical Activity, (P.A.), (Art), Reading, Technology, Science]. In this session participants will: 1. Distinguish the difference between STREAM and EMPARTS, as well as learn how to integrate/modify the EMPARTS activities and authentic, standardized assessments presented in the turn-key handout, into existing k-12 programs. 2. Actively participate in EMPARTS labs, including the engineering of physical activity equipment and participating in the specially designed games and assessments for the equipment. 3. Evaluate learning outcomes according to National Physical Education standards. Come explore the exciting possibilities of EMPARTS to revolutionize education and promote holistic student development.
