It was great to join the Minister for Industry and Trade, Innovation, Science and Technology, Anoulack Chanthivong at the ‘Innovation Blueprint - roundtable discussion’ in the Hunter with Investment NSW. Key discussion points included: ✔How both Newcastle Airport Pty Limited and Port of Newcastle provide key enabling infrastructure to support innovation in businesses. Strategic sales took centre stage, constituting 43% of total exit value. Queensland leading the way with competition reform. 👏   Joanne Tseng, Jerome B. and I had a very constructive couple of days in Brisbane last week meeting stakeholders from across the industry. It was hugely encouraging to directly hear the strong support from across the political and business spectrum.   Over the next couple of weeks, we’re looking forward to hearing assertive news about reestablishing the Interoperabiliry implementation program to deliver competition in 2025. This is vital to give Australia the competition it deserves in property settlement – with $10s of millions of value, productivity and innovation benefits for consumers and small business every year. Joana Neto Mestre, Managing Partner at MATLAW, attended the last Real Estate MeetUp organized by the American Club of Lisbon on Tuesday, May 14, at Grémio Literário in Lisbon.    The Real Estate MeetUp, a significant gathering for entrepreneurs and investors in the international real estate sector, serves as a platform for knowledge sharing and networking.   This edition featured Norfin & Arrow Global as special guests. It was an exciting session which featured a presentation by Francisco Sottomayor (CEO of Norfin) and Andre David Nunes (CIO of Arrow Global) on the real estate market in Portugal.    Amongst other, Francisco and André tackled: - The housing crisis in Portugal and the shortness of supply in the mid and low residential assets - The growing weight of American investment in the sector - Norfin's ongoing projects, being the wide majority of them located in Lisbon (downtown Lisbon, Carcavelos, Aroeira) and the Algarve (Vilamoura, Palmares Ocean Living and Quinta do Lago).   This presentation was followed by a pleasant dinner, during which real estate, the challenges facing the sector, and the upcoming American elections were topics of conversation. A covered market place was among several ideas proposed for Nelson CBD at summit aimed at revitalising the city centre. This is a brilliant idea that would give small businesses the opportunity to take the next step up from local outdoor markets. However, what frustrates me is why the proponents need Council or ratepayer support to make this happen. The solution should be simple: connect with other stakeholders, raise capital and make it happen.
