What is life like as a charity fundraiser in 2024 ❓
🎢 Well. Let me tell you. It's a wild ride.
The non-profit landscape is tougher than ever.
According to the latest Charity Commission annual report, there are 168,893 charities on the register for the year 2022-23.
Many worthwhile causes requiring a lot of support.
There are hoops to jump through out of your control:
❌your income is too high
❌your reach is too low
❌your beneficiaries are too young
❌your volunteer programme is too tricky
❌we love what you do but we've just partnered with Sally's mum's friend's dog rescue centre...
But maybe it's the ex-teacher in me. This stuff NEVER puts me off.
In fact, it makes me more determined than ever to make a difference for the children we serve.
After a few weeks of hitting brick wall after brick wall, Monday brought the most unexpected, substantial donation from a wonderful supporter of The Country Trust
✅ Their words, "The work you do is imperative and we are delighted to support it."
These words will fuel my fundraising tank with hope, optimism and belief through the next few months.
So hang on in there. Enjoy the white knuckle ride.
Keep the faith.

Giving back to the team, fighting food waste and supporting local business - it's a win-win-win scenario.
Fortnightly, we purchase the short-dated food from a local grocers and give it all away to the team F.O.C. The net result is that...
✅ Our colleagues and their families achieve savings,
✅ We play our part in reducing food waste,
✅ and the local shop makes a little money back.

During our last community kitchen event, something remarkable happened. As we were distributing meals, we unexpectedly ran out of takeaway packs. Rushing to a nearby store to get more, we met Olamilekan a food vendor.
Instead of accepting payment, Olamilekan chose to donate the packs to us. He was deeply moved by our efforts, something he had never seen in his community before, and wanted to be a part of it. Even if he was selling food , he didn’t feel uncomfortable about us giving out food around him.
We salute Olamilekan’s generosity and his willingness to support his community. Now, imagine a world filled with more people like Olamilekan—where sharing and giving back are the norms, and everyone has enough to eat. This vision is within our reach, but it starts with each of us.
Be like Olamilekan. Donate today, and together, we can make this a reality.

The latest (2023) Give.org Donor Trust Special Report unveils insights on charity trust and accountability derived from a survey of over 3,100 adults in the US and Canada. Key findings reveal that while 70% of participants prioritize trust before donating, only 20% have high trust in charities.
In December 2022, veterans organizations (27.9%) and not-for-profit hospitals (27.1%) surpassed religious organizations as the most trusted category for the first time. Following closely were religious organizations (26.1%), animal welfare (25.9%), and social service charities (24.9%).
The report highlights the top factors signaling charity trustworthiness:
1) accomplishments shared by the organization; 2) third-party evaluation by an independent entity; 3) name recognition; 4) financial ratios (a top choice for wealthier donors); 5) passion and sincerity in the appeal.

as an agency, we look upon the work of #charities and are amazed at what they do.
through their amazing work, we also see the effort and struggle - to build connections, strengthen online communities and to raise the funds needed to keep missions afloat.
that's why we're around.
this is why we exist.
we exist to give all charities a helping hand.
we want charities to succeed because when they do - people are helped, causes are helped, humanity wins.
the world is better because of the work of charities. and today, we want charities from all around the world to know this: we're on your side.

If 96% of UK charities describe themselves as "small", is it time to start redefining what we mean by 'small charities'?
Surely the term 'small charity' must bear some relation to the size of charities more broadly.
You can't say a rhino is a small animal simply because it's much smaller than a blue whale. It would be absurd to say France is a small country because Canada is so much bigger. So why do we persist in considering charities with 20 salaried staff and a turnover of £1m a year "small".
Your thoughts please!
