International Council for Circular Economy’s Post

𝑾𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒊𝒇 𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒑𝒓𝒐𝒅𝒖𝒄𝒕𝒔 𝒘𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝒅𝒆𝒔𝒊𝒈𝒏𝒆𝒅 𝒕𝒐 𝒍𝒂𝒔𝒕 𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓? 🌍 In a world increasingly aware of its #environmental footprint, the idea of creating products that are not just #sustainable but also designed to last indefinitely is essential. This concept lies at the heart of the #circulareconomy, where the focus is on designing out waste, keeping products and materials in use, and regenerating natural systems. At International Council for Circular Economy (#ICCE), industry leaders, policymakers, and innovators are coming together to explore such visionary ideas. The work we do emphasizes how #durabledesign, coupled with #innovation, can lead to #sustainablegrowth while minimizing #environmentalimpact. By rethinking our approach to production and consumption, we can transform our #economies and #societies into more resilient, circular systems. Imagine a future where #waste is a thing of the past, and every product serves a lifetime purpose. That future isn't just possible—it's already in motion, thanks to the efforts of forward-thinking organizations and initiatives. Let's continue to challenge the status quo and strive for a world where our #resources are valued and preserved. 🌱 #CircularEconomy #Innovation #Sustainability #ICCE #ICEF2024 #GreenInnovation #EcoFriendly #ZeroWaste #FutureOfBusiness #ClimateAction #Environment #SustainableDevelopment

Good food for thought, but to be provocative: from a C2C perspective, the concept is to keep the materials in eternal use vs having products last forever. If a product lasts forever, then there is no need to innovate. A circular economy depends on materials being in use forever, but to use those materials over and over again to drive an economy based on innovation for the better, using fully sustainable manufacturing and logistics options. When developing a product, the aspects of material selection, supplier selection, manufacturing process, manufacturing and distribution optimization are essential. If a product lasts forever, it can be circular, but it will contribute only to a re-use economy but not a Sustainable Circular Economy. The challenge faced to achieve a circular economy will be achieved when the C2C model is embraced and implemented fully. The alternative, if a product lasts forever, is “Product as a service”. This concept could work if products are designed with a modular approach and backward compatibility, in cases where parts can be exchanged.
