A previous post got some attention so here's a short clip (sped up) of some of the content done for the large screen in Aurecon's Melbourne office - new refurb. Yes, that's a 10 meter screen. Yes, I can't touch the top of it. Yes, it is awesome. 43-9 ratio. One of the sets I made for it is on generative buildings. Using stable diffusion, controlnet lora, I generated over 400 versions of building imagery. Culled a few of them off and then made a few versions of it. That's the great power of #GenerativeAI. It wouldn't replace design and a good eye but boy, when we get the combo right.. it gives scale to do lots. I've got 1 hour and 17 minutes of non-repeated content now on it. It's not all buildings, I've got landscape stuff and conceptual things too, which in the following weeks, I'll make some films showcasing the other material. We are halfway through the Dutch Design Week, the largest annual design event in Northern-Europe. Dutch Design Week is a must see for researching trends and cultural analyses. So naturally, MARE’ Anticipate team is deep in research-mode in Eindhoven this week. Thus far, it’s been an event full of inspiring exhibitions, talks and happenings.   With work and concepts by more than 2,600 designers, finding your way can be a little mind boggling. That’s why we cherry picked 5 spots we recommend:     1.    The Graduation Show at De Heuvel Galerie You simply cannot miss out on the Graduation Show while visiting DDW. A new generation of design professionals make their debut and share their vision to the wider public. 2.    The Design Awards at Microlab The Design Awards present you the very best of the latest innovations in design. While you’re there, the rest of the exhibition at Microlab is just as worthwhile; including MARE’s favorite Loop Biotech and The Mahjouba by Eric van Hove. 3.    Everyday Paradise & Evolving Harmony at Kazerne World renowned trend forecaster lidewij edelkoort curated ‘Everyday Paradise’, celebrating craft, playfulness and non-Eurocentric aesthetics. The contrasting Evolving Harmony, also at Kazerne, sets a serious and darker tone. While focusing on nature inspired technology, to lead humanity away from the Antropoceen an into the ‘Symbioceen’. 4.    Manifestations at Veem Manifestations is the largest Art & Tech event during Dutch Design Week. This year’s exhibition shows artists who examine the (mis)matches between people and technology. Our shout out goes to A204, visualizing the hidden world behind AI. A204 research based conceptual design visualizes our trend ‘Digital Dissonance’ remarkably. 5.    Product design at Klokgebouw Putting design into practice: established brands and designers put their latest and best inventions forward at Klokgebouw. Looking forward to participating in this panel on art and science in #postgrowthplanning with Kim Carlotta von Schönfeld Marcos L. Rosa, Sofia Wiberg and Raine Mäntysalo, organised by Susa Eräranta. This event will be a debate on the extent to which academic work (labelled as “scientific”) should engage more in artistic methodologies, artistic output, artistic engagement of audiences or artistic philosophies, and other alternative approaches, and do these relate to the idea of “scientism”. An important underlying assumption is that artistic methods might be more creative and therefore incentivise change - however, this is an untested hypothesis as far as we are aware. We will discuss how art can be used as a process for engaging diverse publics in planning, what art even means in such a context, what its role for inducing 'change' is, and how far-reaching the role of art in planning can and should be. #postgrowthplanning #postgrowthcities #postnormalscience

🌳How to Co-create with Nature?🐛 Yesterday, I had the pleasure of joining an on-stage dialogue with partners in crime Tiia Vihand Estonian Design Centre and Vincent van Herk Dutch Design Week, moderated by Päivi Tahkokallio, on this important, interesting, and inspiring question: How to co-create with nature? Spending an entire Summit during munich creative business week on this topic is, from my point of view, encouraging. This would not have been the case 3-5 years ago. I enjoyed that throughout this Summit, the intention was not to conclude anything but simply to share perspectives and debate the HOW, because there’s no one answer to this question. 🙏🏼 But what is key to me is that we grow confidence in debating the how, and explore and experiment in a way that, 10 years from now (hopefully only 5 years!), co-creating with nature is mainstream. Some key takeaways: 🍀 How to give Nature a voice? Nature has a voice. Nature will fix itself. We, humans, need to find ways to listen. 🍀 Nature is one of the most important stakeholders, whether you want to recognize it or not. 🍀 Co-creation with nature has a crucial impact on climate change mitigation. But co-creating with nature also offers substantial potential in relation to health, wellbeing, community building, and a sense of belonging. 🍀 Co-creation processes create empathy – in this case, for both humans and non-humans. 🍀 We, the current generations, need to accept that we are planting seeds today that will be harvested by future generations. 🍀 Collaboration, collaboration, collaboration!!! I am happy that I could represent both DDC – Danish Design Center, BEDA - The Bureau of European Design Associations, and Desire an Irresistible Circular Society.
