At the Musée d’Orsay’s High-Tech New Van Gogh Show, an A.I. Version of the Artist Will Answer Visitors’ Questions The Musée d'Orsay in Paris is taking a leap into the future with its latest Van Gogh exhibition. This isn't just any art show; it's a high-tech experience that promises to engage visitors in unprecedented ways. One of the standout features is an A.I. reincarnation of Vincent van Gogh himself. This digital version of the iconic artist will interact with attendees, answering their questions and offering insights into his life and works. The integration of such advanced technology signifies a shift in how museums are approaching art exhibitions, aiming to create more immersive and interactive experiences for their audiences. Beyond the A.I. Van Gogh, the exhibition boasts several other interactive technologies, further bridging the gap between art and the digital age. As museums worldwide grapple with the challenge of staying relevant and appealing to younger generations, such innovative approaches might just be the key. Food for thought The Evolution of Art Exhibitions: How will the integration of technology, especially A.I., reshape the way we experience and interact with art in museums? Bridging Past and Future: With A.I. reincarnations of historical figures, are we getting a step closer to truly understanding and connecting with the past? The Role of Museums in the Digital Age: As technology becomes increasingly integrated into our daily lives, how should museums adapt to remain significant cultural institutions? Read the full article for a deeper understanding of this innovative approach to art exhibitions.

The Transformative Power of Art Installation Art installations are pivotal in shaping the narrative of an exhibition, providing a dynamic way to engage audiences and convey deeper meanings. A remarkable example is the "Fourteen Views (2023)" installation at MoMA NYC, part of the exhibition An-My Lê: Between Two Rivers. This installation harks back to the traditional painted cycloramas of nineteenth-century Europe—circular panoramas that offered unbroken, idealized landscapes. These cycloramas, popular before the advent of cinema, subtly communicated the authority and control inherent in their creation, achieved through military and colonial means. An-My Lê's "Fourteen Views" disrupts this narrative by presenting an immersive experience filled with gaps and discontinuities. The images, taken in different years and places, break the illusion of seamless landscapes, highlighting the complex histories and stories behind them. From the Mỹ Thuận Bridge over the Mekong River in Vietnam to the sugarcane fields of Houma, Louisiana, these varied scenes embody Lê's belief that "history doesn't move through time in a straight line." This installation not only captivates viewers with its visual beauty but also challenges them to reflect on the intertwined histories and the often-overlooked narratives of the landscapes. It's a testament to how art installations can add profound layers of meaning to exhibitions, inviting us to see the world through a more critical and reflective lens. Check out the video below to immerse yourself in the experience of "Fourteen Views (2023)" at MoMA NYC. #AnMyLe #ArtInstallation #ContemporaryArt #MuseumExhibition #ArtAndDesign

Brilliant use of polarized filters.
'Uncovered Skies' by aircord inc. and nendo for the Suntory Museum of Art. As visitors walk upon a 15 meter long illuminated stage holding specially-made umbrellas, they notice underneath their legs that images appear on the floor and change as they move around the stage. The images on the floor represent the sky through the changing seasons in time and weather; the cherry blossom in spring, falling leaves in autumn and snow blowing in the air through the cold winter. 📍 Roppongi district, Tokyo The setup of this exhibited work relies on an optical phenomenon that occurs, through light from a projector in which the polarizing filter has been removed, combined with a polarizing filter stretched on an umbrella. A new experience is created, exactly opposite to everyday life in which the sky, normally hidden by opening an umbrella, comes into view. #interactive #exhibition #immersive #newmediaart

Looking at people looking at art: inside the mind of a gallery attendant. This article by Wallpaper* shares wonderful personal stories and some of their key observations that might sound familiar to frequent museum visitors: - Most people only spend (about eight) seconds looking at a piece of art, while others dive deep, spending hours soaking in every detail. - Because of social media, there's a boom in interest for immersive and interactive art exhibitions, with many (younger) visitors snapping photos rather than fully engaging with the art itself. - Reactions to art are all over the map—from laughter and tears to, occasionally, some naughty behavior like touching or even purposefully damaging (climate activists) the artwork. But more interestingly: - Over time, seeing the same artworks again and again can shift the attendants' own understanding and appreciation of these pieces. - Lately, visitors are also pondering big-picture questions about the purpose and inclusivity of museums, making the experience not just about looking at art, but about rethinking its place in our world. It would be interesting to see the difference of the brain waves’ response between the masterpieces listed and a digital art piece / or an AI machine assisted artwork.
The impact of art on human brainwaves has been visualised in real-time and in 3D for the public, for the first time. Our world-first project highlights how people's brains are stimulated when they experience art in museums and galleries, and aims to help answer the question of the fundamental value of art. The technology was trialled by members of the public for the first time this week at London’s Courtauld Gallery. Those taking part viewed artworks by Vincent Van Gogh, Èdouard Manet, Claude Monet and Paul Cézanne while connected to an electroencephalogram (EEG) monitor. The outputs of the brainwaves were visualised on-screen in 3D and real-time. The technology is set to tour select museums across the UK in 2024. Art Fund created the campaign with special effects company The Mill and artist Seph Li to highlight the significant benefits of visiting museums and galleries with a National Art Pass. The pass allows members of the public to enjoy free entry to hundreds of museums, galleries and historic houses across the UK as well as 50% off major exhibitions and discounts in museum shops and cafes. Watch Art Fund Director Jenny Waldman talk about the impact of art on visitors to museums & galleries. Details of the museums the project will be visiting in 2024 will be released next year. 🧠 Read more about the research: https://lnkd.in/ebiYgWr9 You can get your own National Art Pass and start stimulating your brainwaves here: https://lnkd.in/eWQcc_-F #ArtBrainwaves #NationalArtPass

I came across an interesting article about the Van Gogh exhibition at the Musée d’Orsay in Paris that recently set a new record, attracting a whopping 793,556 visitors in just four months with its very experiential, tactile and immersive Vincent van Gogh exhibition. When I visited "Van Gogh in Auvers-sur-Oise: The Final Months," in December last year, I was amazed by the seamless integration of art and experiential technology right from when you queue up to enter the exhibition halls to the multiple different pockets of experiences integrated within the exhibition design. I particularly liked the “Hello Vincent” interactive experience which used AI trained on Van Gogh's letters and biographies to bring the artist to life. One could engage in one-on-one conversations with the A.I. van Gogh and get real-time responses, in a way that Van Gogh may respond. There were multiple such fascinating art and tech explorations inviting the viewer to engage with some of his most seminal works. The numbers speak for themselves — cleverly using experiential tech made the art more accessible, interactive, and emotionally resonant. As an advocate for making art more accessible, seeing this exhibit was a powerful reminder that museums, foundations, galleries and other exhibition makers today cannot shy away from doing things differently. This is a small glimpse into how embracing technology can redefine how we engage with art. Have you seen this exhibition or other similar tech-infused art experiences? Excited to hear of more such experiences! #ArtExhibitions #VanGogh #Technology #ArtTrends #ArtInnovation Musée d'Orsay
