After taking a look at the crypto space, and the types of devices that were currently available, Tony came to the conclusion that what the space really needed was a device that was "a delight to use" – while still maintaining Ledger’s top-notch security. "Most devices in the past have lacked security, or they've lacked utility – or they haven't had enough visual space for you to see what it is you're signing," says Ledger CXO ian rogers. Ledger Stax was born out of a desire to address all three of these needs – a device that's secure, easy to use, and allows you to clearly read what you're signing. Ledger Stax’s screen is the world’s first secure touchscreen – but what exactly does that mean? When you’re signing transactions, it’s vital that you’re able to trust the information being shown on the screen you’re signing on. Signing transactions using your phone or computer (like when using a software wallet), means you can’t be 100% certain that what you’re seeing is what you’re signing, as phones and computers are vulnerable to hacks. All of Ledger’s devices feature a secure screen – meaning a screen that’s driven by the Secure Element, keeping it safe from hacks. That means that not only is Ledger Stax’s screen our largest screen to date and our first touchscreen, but it’s completely secure and trustworthy. The size of Ledger Stax’s secure touchscreen – 3.9 inches – also makes it much easier to read through your transactions and ensure that you fully understand what you’re signing - no need to scroll through 5 different screens to read through a transaction! On top of that, your Ledger Stax can be personalized! By giving your Ledger Stax a name, and choosing an NFT or photo as your lockscreen, your device becomes immediately recognizable as yours - even when powered off. Apple's upcoming iOS 17.4 update adds a new security feature to iMessage that's so futuristic that the attack strategy it's protecting against hasn't been developed yet. Once you download the next version of iOS, your iMessage chats will have an elevated level of encryption that Apple says can't be broken into with quantum computers. PQ3 is Apple's first version of what the security industry calls post-quantum cryptography, which are algorithms designed for a future where quantum computing is commonplace. Privacy-focused chat app Signal announced last year that it would upgrade its Signal Protocol with a version of PQC, and Apple says its PQ3 solution is more advanced, as its protocol can restore security even if the cryptographic key (the security handshake authenticating each device in a conversation) is compromised by generating keys for each message.

Yet another data point to show that hardware may not be the most secure. In this case, it's made worse by the fact that this hardware flaw (like many other hardware ones) is unpatchable. Software has to be used to mitigate it. Hence, software security that protects the app and crypto, making them immune from the underlying vulnerabilities of the OS or hardware, would be your best bet. 🔒 Revolutionizing Authentication: The Rise of Passkeys As technology evolves, so does our approach to securing digital identities. Enter passkeys, a groundbreaking method of authentication that's transforming the way we log into websites and services. 🌐 Passkeys leverage cryptographically generated keys, typically stored on devices like smartphones or hardware tokens, offering a seamless yet highly secure login experience. 🛡️ Here's a glimpse into how passkeys work: Upon registration, a device generates a unique pair of keys: a public key shared with the service and a private key securely stored on the device. During login, the device signs a challenge from the server using its private key. The server verifies this signature with the stored public key, granting access if the signature matches. 🚪 This method eliminates the need for remembering complex passwords, reducing the risk of password reuse and associated security vulnerabilities. Plus, it integrates seamlessly with existing systems, supporting multifactor authentication (MFA) and enhancing overall security. 🔒 However, a common concern arises regarding the storage of passkeys across multiple devices running different operating systems. While traditional password managers could serve as a workaround, I'm curious to explore innovative solutions that ensure the secure storage and accessibility of passkeys across various platforms without relying on third-party tools. Interestingly, the introduction of passkeys raises questions about the necessity of traditional two-factor authentication (2FA) methods. With passkeys providing a robust and user-friendly authentication mechanism, the role of 2FA, which adds an extra layer of security through codes sent to a user's phone or email, may become less critical. This shift could streamline the login process further, making it both more secure and convenient for users. Question : How to store "passkeys" across multiple devices, where password managers should not be only solution?  I believe that the only issue with passkey authentication is storage. If we manage to figure out a practical and economical way to keep the private key on the client side, Or we can use traditional way of storing passkeys on client machine and let user have multiple passkeys to login to same account Your thoughts? Apple has hit a master stroke recently with its shift to PQ3 (Post Quantum Level 3 Encryption) on iMessage. Without getting into levels of detall 💤 about how it works, this new encryption standard is defensible from having its keys / ciphers cracked / factored by a quantum computer in the future. (Not sure you can say ‘totally’ but that’s maybe debatable) In true Apple style they mix the technology with a prescient need and together create a feature that will give them a better platform and a point of difference. Leaders and businesses are urged to act now with planning and executing their refresh approach for encryption because it is likely that existing ciphers / standards will be given a depreciation deadline - almost certainly something that will be driven by regulation that will run the clock down. Thinkng this doesn’t impact you? Think again. It will impact all data storage, messaging, transactions and information transfer, and bitcoin wallets on the internet - direct or otherwise. All your applications that use encryption will be impacted.
