I am excited to announce that I have successfully completed "VOUS ÊTES ENGAGÉ! Institute Internship Interview Preparation in French Program" 🇫🇷🎓 Thrilled to share that I've completed the immersive "VOUS ÊTES ENGAGÉ! Institute Internship Interview Preparation in French Program." 🚀 This experience has been nothing short of transformative, paving the way for a deeper understanding of the language and enhancing my communication skills in a professional setting. What makes this achievement particularly special is the fact that my journey with French has been entirely practical. I embarked on this adventure without any theoretical learning experience, opting for a hands-on approach through my part-time role as a supermarket cashier. 💼💬 I engaged in daily conversations with customers, colleagues, and supervisors, applying French language skills in real-life scenarios. This practical immersion not only made learning enjoyable but also proved to be remarkably effective. No textbooks, no online courses – just the authentic use of French in a practical, everyday context. It's a testament to the power of experiential learning and the importance of applying language skills in real-world situations. 🎓👔 𝐄𝐮𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞: 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐬𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭-𝐚𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐚𝐧 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐚𝐛𝐫𝐨𝐚𝐝 Doing an internship abroad means discovering a new working culture and a different way of doing things which, depending on the country, can be very different from the usual practice in your home country. While it's a great experience as a person to be able to evolve in a new environment, it's also a great added value to a Reume/CV that can make the difference between different candidates on the job market 💡 Indeed, deciding to work in another country means that you are taking the 'risk' of leaving your comfort zone and showing that you are open-minded. This generally strengthens your ability to adapt and, what's more, it's a good opportunity to reinforce or learn a new language. A study conducted by GISMA University of Applied Sciences found that individuals seeking an internship in another European Union country tend to prefer Paris. The study also identified the city with the highest number of internship opportunities, where the chances of securing a placement are the highest. BDAE GRUPPE comes back to the findings of this study in the below article 👇 #mobility #education #international

We love to talk with our students and get to know them better! 😍 Here we share the latest interview to one of our Summer Internship students at CIEE Berlin Grace Kadia is originally from Fort Worth, Texas and studying at the University of North Texas. She is one of the more than 100 students taking part of our internship program, where they come to work and also live in Berlin for 8 weeks with the goal of gaining real-life work experience abroad and also explore industries of interest, network with international professionals, and develop new skill sets. But not only that, also getting to know the culture and history of Berlin. As Grace expresses: "My mantra throughout my travel has been ‘do it for the plot’. Embrace the fear, be spontaneous, and come back with stories that define your journey. Studying abroad is about more than just classes; it's diving into a new culture, facing challenges head-on, and discovering parts of yourself you never knew existed. Take risks, step outside your comfort zone, and let your curiosity lead the way. Again, feeling nervous is normal—it's all part of the plot". https://lnkd.in/eDiREQQG

Strategic Leadership / Performance Management / International Human Rights Law/Governance & Conflict Prevention / Program Development / Project Management
It is commendable that the internship program at the African Union is expanding, but offering unpaid internships is fundamentally wrong for several reasons. First, it exploits labor and takes advantage of the pervasive youth unemployment in Africa. Second, it is inherently discriminatory, as only those who can afford to cover their own costs can participate, excluding many talented young people from less privileged backgrounds. Additionally, unpaid internships create an uneven playing field, reinforcing socioeconomic inequalities and limiting diversity within the program. This practice also devalues the contributions of interns, sending the message that their work is not worth compensation. Lastly, by offering unpaid internships, the AU risks alienating and demotivating the very youth it seeks to empower, undermining its commitment to youth development and inclusive growth on the continent.African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights (ACHPR) African Union
OF UNPAID INTERNSHIPS! My Reflection on the African Union UNPAID internship: https://lnkd.in/dSQbrcPc The AU has positioned itself as a champion of youth development and empowerment. However, the terms and conditions of its internship programme shows a troubling disconnect between its stated support for young people and the practical realities faced by prospective interns. The internship programme, despite its promising veneer, is fundamentally exclusionary & at odds with its mission to support and uplift young people. By imposing restrictive terms, the AU limits access to this programmes & perpetuates inequality among potential candidates. 1) One of the conditions is that the AU holds no financial obligation towards interns. This means that all costs related to travel, accommodation, and living expenses must be covered by the interns themselves. For many young people, particularly those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, this requirement creates a significant barrier to participation & is inherently limiting and fails to offer equal opportunities to all potential candidates. 2) The other condition is that "interns are not entitled to medical travel or medical evacuation to and from the internship location at the expenses of the Commission". Surely this places an additional financial and logistical strain on interns & further marginalises those who cannot afford comprehensive insurance.. Terms and Conditions • The AU will have no financial obligation towards interns - travel arrangements and cost of accommodation and living expenses will be the responsibility of the interns. • AU will use reasonable efforts to assist the interns in obtaining their entry and residence visas. • Interns will not be entitled to any compensation for travel. • The internship will be authorized only once for three (3) month renewable one time for any candidate • Interns are not entitled to medical travel or medical evacuation to and from the internship location at the expenses of the Commission. Interns shall therefore have an individual insurance coverage throughout the duration of the internship. If the AU genuinely aims to empower a new generation of leaders, surely, shouldn't it reconsider its exclusionary approach to internships? The AU should create a more equitable internship framework that reflects its commitment to youth development.
