Scientists have found millions of nanoplastic particles in drinking water bottled in plastic. Plastic is proven harmful to the environment including carcinogenic effects on humans. I am switching to drinking filtered water I placed in either stainless steel or aluminum sports type bottles. Much safer, as stainless steel and aluminum containers are far less likely to leech any contamination into the water placed in them. #plastic #waterpollution #health https://lnkd.in/gjxyYriH

Plastic pollution is considered one of today’s main environmental problems. With worldwide production rates of 460 million tons per year and recycling rates being only at 9%, more and more plastic debris is ending up in the environment. Read about how #MATLAB Statistics and Machine Learning toolbox and photoluminescence spectroscopy were used to identify plastics in aquatic environments. #machinelearning #plasticpollution

⛑️Well this is NUTS: Scientists Confirm Microplastics Now Detected in Human Testicles. 🔬Research led by the University of New Mexico looked at testicular tissue taken from both dogs and humans, finding microplastics in EVERY SAMPLE, with an abundance almost three times higher in humans than in dogs. The team found an average 122.63 micrograms of microplastics per gram of tissue in canines, and 329.44 micrograms per gram in people. 📰 READ the article HERE: https://lnkd.in/e6ZRdCUU 📰 READ the research HERE: https://lnkd.in/ekXkv8Wh 👚The LARGEST source of primary microplastics in our oceans comes from synthetic fibre shed. Check out the article behind the front cover of the latest issue of Environmental Science: Atmospheres 🌦 - A fluorescence approach for an online measurement technique of atmospheric microplastics - from Hinrich Grothe and colleagues at Technische Universität Wien and The University of British Columbia. Plastic pollution is a major environmental problem 🥤 - airborne microplastics and nanoplastics are of particular concern due to the possibility of inhalation and resulting health risks. In this important and innovative work they demonstrate the use of the autofluorescence of microplastic particles for their online detection with a high sensitivity towards different widely used polymers. Plastic particles found in water bottles are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to nanoplastics in the environment. At Phos Technology we are developing rapid plastics particle counting to keep nanoplastics out of our water and out of our bodies. To see how we are changing the way we see plastics, check out the work of Melissa Maurer-Jones at the University of Minnesota Duluth to characterize the size and weathering of plastic particles in Lake Superior and the St. Louis Estuary: https://lnkd.in/gvWxHKib https://lnkd.in/g8B4EjMU #plastics #plastictesting #polymerscience #nanoplastics #phostechnology #characterization #degradation #polymertesting #waterpollution #columbiauniversity #rutgersuniversity #cbsnews
