🔬 The Material Maze in PFAS Analysis Finding the right materials for PFAS analysis is a challenge. The unique properties of PFAS compounds require a system that prevents loss during the cleanup and enrichment phases without compromising the integrity of the analysis. The Glass Dilemma: Glass surfaces, with their hydrophobic tendencies, often lead to the adsorption of PFAS, causing frustratingly low recoveries. This has necessitated the shift towards glass-free systems in PFAS analytical methods. The Plastic Paradox: On the flip side, PFAS can be released from many plastic surfaces, limiting the choice of suitable materials for conducting PFAS analysis without contamination. Enter Polypropylene (PP): Polypropylene (PP) is quickly becoming the material of choice, offering a solution to these challenges. We are excited to share insights from our recent publication by Carlo Kaiser, written under the supervision of Thomas Buchwald and Urs Alexander Peuker. In our study, we investigated an innovative #recycling approach for solid oxide cells (SOCs) used in solid oxide #electrolyzers: ultrasonic decoating. This technique is simple, can be automated, and does not require any additional hazardous materials. Our research shows that ultrasonic decoating effectively separates the oxygen side layers (perovskites) from SOC. It can achieve complete and selective liberation, paving the way for susainable and automatable recycling processes. Erzeugung europäisch denken, keine Abenteuer mit riesigen Transportwegen und exzessiven Anwendungen/Verbrauchen(/Verschwendungen), wo es bessere andere Möglichkeiten gibt (looking at you, #Straßenverkehr, #Gebäudewärme, #Niedertemperaturprozesswärme, #Kraftwerkstrategie), und die eigenen Möglichkeiten realistisch betrachten, ggf auch #Wertschöpfungsketten maßvoll und rechtzeitig anpassen. Did you know nanomaterials are used in agriculture as well as in other applications? Nanomaterials are more efficient than similar fungicides, since a smaller quantity of the product is required to achieve the same effect. Nanomaterials can be applied as sensors as well, in the detection of diseases and residues in plants.
