MOTORSPORT: Bridgestone Americas marks 45th Anniversary of #Potenza tire line at One Lap of America Two teams from #Bridgestone – Team Potenza Race and Team Potenza RE-71RS – are competing in the eight-day, 3,500-mile journey across 15 states, which being held on May 4-11. This weekend marks the 92nd running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, with 62 cars competing across three different classes. The lineup includes 15 types of cars, 14 car manufacturers, and over 30 different teams. There will be plenty of action across the 3 different classes of Hypercar, LMP2, and LMGT3. Most of the excitement and attention centers on the Hypercar class, which sees the return of Cadillac. American car enthusiasts are excited as Cadillac will be the only American manufacturer competing in the class this year. I’ll be watching intermittently, but I won’t be watching any specific class. I don’t have a horse in the race, but I enjoy the race for its history and importance in motorsports. Winning this race is one of the requirements for drivers to claim the unofficial Triple Crown of Motorsports. This prestigious achievement, only claimed by Graham Hill, requires winning at the Monaco Grand Prix (F1), Indianapolis 500 (Indycar), and 24 Hours of Le Mans (WEC). Koenigsegg's one and only racing car - the CCGT! The car started as a side project for Christian to realize the bigger picture of racing. It was built to compete in the FIA GT Championship, complying with all ACO and FIA rules at the time of completion. Unfortunately, a few months after the work was completed, while the car was being run, the FIA changed the rules for the GT1 class. First, carbon monohulls were no longer allowed. Then the approval figures went from 20 examples spread over time to 350 examples per year. Unable to adhere to the new changes, Koenigsegg must withdraw. In the process of bringing the CCGT project to an end, with only one car under construction. So let’s talk about this rare beast. It carried the same basic engine as that of the CCX, but the superchargers were removed to meet the racing restrictions of the time. They increased the engine size from 4.7L to 5.0L to make a restricted run of 600 hp. It is equipped with a 6-speed sequential CIMA transmission that drives power to the rear wheels. The car's bodywork is carbon Kevlar, weighing just 2200lbs (1000kg) before the ballast they were forced to race. That’s also 1400 lbs of downforce. Koenigsegg claims those who drove it said the car was a dream to drive and would have been incredibly competitive. Last year it was auctioned off at the Goodwood Festival of Speed and now has a new home.
