TopSpeed has a good overview of hydrogen combustion, although mainly focused on the passenger vehicle market. The advantages are the same, however, range, fast refuelling times and less of the environmental damage associated with large batteries.
Although the issue of refuelling infrastructure is a major issue for passenger vehicles which are currently supported by 8000 petrol stations it is less of an issue for heavier vehicles. As HGVs go further they only need 150 truck stops, supplemented by depot-based refuelling.
In terms of bangs for the buck, or more accurately greenhouse gas reduction per pound invested, hydrogen combustion engines represent remarkable value compared to battery electric or hydrogen fuel cell trucks.
This may be an example where trucks go, passenger vehicles will follow.
