Today we sent a letter to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to highlight some institutional and policy adjustments needed over the next five years to ensure that environmental, climate, social, economic and geopolitical considerations are properly reflected in EU’s legislation. The European #hydrogenecosystem is well placed to contribute to reaching the objectives of the #energytransition and those of the Pact for European Competitiveness to ensure sustainable, prosperous, competitive and resilient of European economies. #Hydrogen can provide the necessary flexibility to our renewables and help decarbonise energy and industrial sectors that are still reliant on fossil fuels. For that to materialise in time for our 2030 reality check, Europe needs to move from the notional inclusion of hydrogen in the energy mix to an earnest development of the #hydrogeneconomy. The EU needs a compelling, comprehensive and focussed hydrogen implementation agenda with a budget, a timeline, and a map of institutional and industrial partners. Public investments should help European industrial actors derisk their #investments in clean solutions and help them preserve their global competitiveness. We also need to build hydrogen partnerships that bring volumes and security of supply, and positively contribute to the EU’s international development objectives and climate diplomacy. A bold long-term vision and swift short-term measures are needed to advance on a version of the #EUGreenDeal that simultaneously keeps us globally competitive, secures resilient supply of affordable #cleanenergy, and accelerates #climateaction. Very clear, I would have added a line on the low carbon hydrogen/fuels delegated act which is not coming for now...
Europe must begin to walk the talk, the hyenas are lurking around. The promise is evident and it will be treasonable to sell this one out again.
Well done and good luck!
A green vision for a clean future.

5dThank you so much for your insightful recommendations on advancing the hydrogen ecosystem in the EU. However, I feel that a few challenges need addressing.. Adequate Funding: While public investments are crucial, balancing these funds amidst other priorities is no small thing.. The level of cooperation needed among governments, industries, and international partners is substantial and complex. Technological Advances: Moving from concept to reality involves overcoming significant technical hurdles and scaling innovations quickly. We need to take steps to protect our European hydrogen technology companies remember the fiasco with the the hydr. bank. Maintaining Competitiveness: Transitioning to hydrogen while keeping our global edge requires careful market management. Supply Chain Security: Building reliable hydrogen supply chains necessitates robust international agreements, which can be tough to secure. Harmonizing Regulations: Establishing supportive regulatory frameworks across member states is essential but can be a lengthy process. Despite these challenges, your vision is both ambitious and necessary. Tackling these issues with practical steps will be key to success for the hydrogen economy👍
