Pouch or pocket sorter system deployments are trending big time in e-commerce and omnichannel Fulfillment centers. What started out to be a lean and powerful method of consolidation for multi line orders is now being expanded to also handle Returns, and get this.... pre loading of Fast Moving SKUs, a.k.a. Dynamic Buffering. Within the last year or two, we have been seeing system magnitudes going through the roof! Meaning, the regular 15,000-25,000 system magnitude in terms of pockets is now being expanded like twentyfold into the range of 300,000 to 500,000 pockets (!) In terms of sizing, these systems offer abundant throughput, as it is easy to multiply modules. The critical thing here is to get the various communicating buffer zones sized correctly: Post pick buffer, pre-sort buffer, matrix sorter, pre-pack buffer, empties buffer, etc......There are about 10-12 vendors covering this space, yet what is noteworthy that even though the systems all look very similar, there are quite significant differences between their offerings in terms of station ergonomics / station throughput, payload per pouch, smoothness of propulsion, etc. Therefore, make sure to contact us for a consultation, you want to avoid pitfalls such as putting the wrong SKUs into a dynamic buffer, or finding out the hard way which pouch designs can lead to abrasions and therefore damages to certain products. #ecommercelogistics #fulfillmentcenter #ecommercefulfillment #intralogistics

The Home Depot has one major advantage over competing retailers that keep much of their inventory in back rooms, where it’s invisible to customers and associates alike. With its high store ceilings, the retailer can store many items in shelving way above the sales floor, ready to be taken down and put on reachable shelves. The problem, of course, is that storing items so high up means it’s nearly impossible to read their labels, barcodes or QR codes, making it difficult to know not just what’s up there but whether it needs to be plucked down, and when. That can negatively affect on-shelf availability and create frustration for both associates and customers. #retailtech #storeoperations
