Data Scientist: Please share your expectations for the position, project, or process deliverable. 2023 Business Environment: Turn your sound up and listen below. Takeaway: Set clear expectations before posting open requisitions (I.E. the company that wants 8 top tier machine learning publications as a minimum requirement), project deliverables (Provision access to necessary data mediums and computing resources), and map processes back to system of records (Do not create a process that runs in isolation for no reason and performs zero quality or control checks).

Great video on becoming a data engineer from a data analyst. This reflects my journey so far as I’m starting on my path to become a data engineer.
A common path to becoming a data engineer is to start as a data analyst. This will give you exposure to the data-sets and processes that data engineers build. It will also expose you to: - Working with data warehouses and data lakes - SQL - Automating processes with Python and VBA - Data Once you've got a baseline, then you just need to: - Learn about data pipelines, ETLs/ELTs and other workflows - Learn about distributed systems - Practice data modeling for analytics and transaction systems - Read up on various software design principles and paradigms like OOP and functional programing - Ask your manager to take on small DE projects at work - Subscribe to the youtube channels in the comments - Start interviewing for data engineering roles! If you're a data analyst or data analyst that switched to a DE, what else do you think is worth learning? https://lnkd.in/gEDYUfK7

📢 Calling all Data Engineers! 🚀 Are you gearing up for your next job interview in the exciting world of data engineering? 🎯 To help you prepare, I've compiled a list of scenario-based questions along with hints to guide you in formulating your answers. These questions will challenge your technical skills, problem-solving abilities, and decision-making prowess. 💡 1️⃣ Scenario: You are tasked with designing a data pipeline to process large-scale data from various sources. Hint: Consider using distributed processing frameworks like Apache Spark, and ensure fault tolerance with data replication or checkpointing mechanisms. 2️⃣ Scenario: Your team is experiencing performance issues in a real-time data processing system. Hint: Start by monitoring system metrics and profiling code to identify performance bottlenecks. Think about optimizing data structures and leveraging caching strategies. 3️⃣ Scenario: You're handling sensitive data and need to implement robust security measures. Hint: Apply encryption for data at rest and in transit. Consider using access controls, authentication mechanisms, and auditing to safeguard data. 4️⃣ Scenario: Your company plans to migrate its data infrastructure to the cloud. Hint: Develop a comprehensive migration plan, perform data validation during the migration, and consider using cloud-native data storage services. 5️⃣ Scenario: An unexpected data outage has occurred. Hint: Start by checking system logs and error messages to identify the root cause. Have a disaster recovery plan in place, and consider redundancy and backup solutions. These scenarios aim to assess your technical expertise, teamwork, and ability to handle real-world challenges in data engineering. Remember, it's not just about finding the "right" answer, but showcasing your problem-solving approach and thought process. 🧠 Feel free to share your thoughts or other scenario-based questions you've encountered in your data engineering journey! Let's learn and grow together in this fascinating field. 📚🤝 #DataEngineering #InterviewPrep #ScenarioBasedQuestions #TechJobs

Sometimes it's immediately apparent that the person writing the job description is not familiar with all the technical terms, or maybe they are looking for 1 individual to fill 3 positions. It becomes particularly amusing when in the same job description, there are three consecutive paragraphs, each detailing a completely different area of expertise. 🔶 Data scientists🔶 analyse and interpret complex data to create actionable insights, utilising statistical analysis, machine learning, and predictive modeling to inform business decisions built on top of systems that are designed and maintained by 🔴 Data Engineers 🔴 🔴 Data engineers 🔴 specialise in preparing and managing the architecture that 🔶 data scientists 🔶 use for analysis, focusing on coding, data collection, storage, and data pipeline optimisation. 🔷 Software developers 🔷 design and build software applications and systems, writing code to create programs that meet user needs and software specifications. They are involved in the entire development life cycle, from concept and design to testing and maintenance. Have you seen or received any job postings like this?
