The scale of mental health needs can be daunting for funders when considering how they can make a difference with their limited funds. Our first ever 'Power of Giving' report offers potential solutions to the challenges philanthropists are facing and calls for more transparency around the amount of private funding for action on mental health. Thank you to World Economic Forum for helping to amplify this report and encouraging more to join those already providing effective funding. Read the article here > https://bit.ly/4eY9CG0

Each month, healthcare organizations around the country recognize a particular health condition or provide educational materials about a certain topic. This month is National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month! 🧠 Established in 2008 and named after advocate Bebe Moore Campbell, this month highlights the mental health disparities faced by minority communities in the U.S. This month aims to raise awareness about the unique challenges these groups encounter, such as limited access to care, cultural stigma, and socio-economic barriers. Minority populations in the U.S. often have less access to mental health services, are less likely to receive needed care, and are more likely to receive poor-quality care when they do receive it. Cultural stigma and lack of understanding about mental health issues can prevent minorities from seeking help. 💭 Organizations like NAMI and MHA spearhead educational events, outreach activities, and advocacy efforts to promote culturally competent mental health services and early intervention, especially for minority youth. This month also serves as a platform for pushing policy changes to improve access to quality mental health care and provide essential resources and support for minority populations.

A holistic approach to teaching and learning is crucial, with emotional and social learning to be top priority. Back to the need for every school and educational setting to have an on-site inter and or transdisciplinary team. Preventative focus. Yes, adopt, implement and sustain a whole-school approach to mental health and wellbeing: This should be underpinned with the promotion of social, emotional and physical development as well as academic achievement, and more training for school staff.

We are proud to have contributed to the Public Mental Health Needs Assessment, which has just been published by West Sussex County Council. Led by the Public Health team, this valuable report will be used to inform mental health provision across the county, identifying needs, gaps and what is working well for people from perinatal mental health and early years through to older adults. It’s the culmination of a significant amount of research, including surveys, focus groups and workshops (among other methods) and includes co-production with people with lived experience of mental health. We shared a lot of our data with the needs assessment steering group and joined many of the working groups. Among the six areas for focus identified by the report, two particular areas stand out and indeed we have already identified these as priority areas for our strategy for 2025-2030: increased focus on preventative mental health and early intervention; and increased access and early intervention for 16 to 25 year olds. We look forward to working with other voluntary, charity and social enterprise organisations, in collaboration with our NHS and local authority partners across West Sussex, to use this valuable report to improve and coordinate community mental health and meet the ever-rising demand for support. ➡️ Read the executive summary of the West Sussex Public Mental Health Needs assessment here: https://lnkd.in/eVxcBczy #MentalHealthSupport #WestSussex #Coproduction #LivedExperience

🧠 IfM Engage recently supported YPMH: The Foundation For Young People's Mental Health by convening experts from across the mental health ecosystem to consider innovations that could enhance the #mentalhealth of children and young people. In summary: 🙋♀️✍ The workshops identified a range of unmet needs, including the lack of knowledge across the population of the complex risk factors and mechanisms of #depression in young people. 💭🤝 the work facilitated multidisciplinary conversations with experts across the mental health ecosystem enabling YPMH to gain a deeper understanding of the key contexts and challenges. 🛣👨👧👦 YPMH now has a clear direction and plan to engage with charities to improve the support available in this area. IfM Engage used #roadmapping to facilitate the process and workshops were held online to enable healthcare professionals from different locations, and with limited available time, to collaborate easily and efficiently. ➡ Read the full case study to learn more: https://lnkd.in/eHZp97Pm Peter Templeton Charlotte Catignani
