June is Pride month across the world, but at Hurtigruten, we want to ensure that both our LGBTQ employees and guests feel at home, respected, and included any day and month of the year. As a true Norwegian legacy company, we are proud to possess the values that have made Scandinavia the most LGBTQ friendly region in the world. These values are in our DNA, both on the sea and on land, and are a natural part of our business and mindset. As part of Pride month, our ships along the Norwegian coast will mark this by raising the pride flag, along with increased employee engagement on both ships and offices, with Pride events. But year-round, our engaging LGBTQ Employee Resource Group (ERG) create a space for sharing, learning and connecting, and foster a sense of belonging for everyone, both our LGBTQ colleagues and allies. In Hurtigruten, our ERG plays a key role in supporting the company's ambitions to become more diverse and inclusive, as well as to ensure Hurtigruten represents its LGBTQ employees when doing business. This includes ensuring no colleague of ours is suffering from any form of homophobia, transphobia, or any other bullying or discrimination. Based on employee research on DEI, our leaders are trained to ensure we are even more inclusive and aware of our diverse talents across the company, as our goal is simply to be the most inclusive travel company in the world. At Hurtigruten, we believe that together we can make our voices heard and shape change. We have a lot more to achieve, and we are committed to doing even better and doing more. For now, Happy Pride! As Pride month draws to a close in the UK, we take a look back at the thought-provoking and significant webinar attended by nearly 200 colleagues across the Bellrock Group. Belonging at Bellrock, our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion policy launched in March and the webinar, hosted by John Hamilton, Chief People Officer, discussed how that strategy is developing alongside exploring insights from the recent employee engagement survey. Progress & Advancement Whilst there were many who feel a strong sense of belonging at Bellrock, the survey revealed that we still have some work to do to ensure everyone at Bellrock feels included and can make their voice heard. Therefore, we will immediately be launching a confidential and independent ‘speak up’ reporting line. With the support and guidance of our DEI steering group we are also launching employee resource groups who will be focused on driving progress in the following areas: Pride - the LGBTQ employee resource group Ability - the disability resource group Progress - the gender employee resource group Together - the multicultural employee resource group Unique – the neurodiversity employee resource group Pride Employee Resource Group The Pride employee resource group will be the first to be launched and they are already making plans to relaunch Bellrock allyship and inclusive language guides and develop further training. They are working on solidifying our involvement with LGBT in Facilities Management (LGBT in FM) and confirming plans to attend Leicester Pride. What is Pride Month? June is Pride month in the UK, a time when the LGBTQ community and its allies come together to celebrate. However, Pride is not just a celebration, it’s important to reflect on the progress that has been made across legislation, attitudes and behaviours, but Pride is also a continued protest. The first Pride, in June 1970, marked the first anniversary since the uprising at New York’s Stonewall Inn. Since then, Pride parades take place around the world as a sign for visibility and equality. In the UK, particularly up until the abolishment Section 28 in 2003, Pride was more of a protest than a parade. Pride throughout the year We recognise as a business that we still have work to go to ensure we’re supporting all colleagues in the best way possible and look forward to sharing our DEI progress and celebrating our LGBT colleagues throughout the year ahead. 🏳️🌈 🏳️⚧️ #PRIDE #BelongingatBellrock #DEI

Director at Mist LGBTQ Foundation | Mr Gay India 2020 | Core team LGBTQ Affairs at All India Professional Cong
As many of you know, I'm often invited to speak at companies and organizations, particularly during Pride Month. It's fantastic to see a focus on LGBTQ inclusion, but here's the thing: true inclusion isn't a one-month celebration. It's disheartening to witness companies light up their logos in rainbow colors, host Pride events, and then let inclusivity efforts fizzle out come July. Pride is a powerful symbol, but genuine progress requires year-round commitment. Here's why a year-round approach matters: 🔹 Sustainability: Performative gestures in June don't create lasting change. True inclusion requires ongoing work and a genuine shift in company culture. 🔹 Employee well-being: LGBTQ employees deserve to feel safe, valued, and respected every day, not just during Pride Month. 🔹 Authenticity: Real progress comes from genuine efforts, not performative displays. So, how can we move beyond the rainbow and foster year-round LGBTQ inclusion? 🔹 Implement inclusive policies: Enact non-discrimination policies that explicitly protect LGBTQ employees. 🔹 Provide unconscious bias training: Educate all employees on unconscious bias and its impact on colleagues. 🔹 Offer LGBTQ employee resource groups (ERGs): Create spaces where LGBTQ employees can connect and support each other. 🔹 Celebrate diversity authentically: Showcase LGBTQ achievements and stories throughout the year. 🔹 Use inclusive language: Respect preferred pronouns and avoid heteronormative assumptions in communication. Let's move beyond performative Pride and build workplaces where everyone feels empowered to be their authentic selves, every single day. Who's with me? #LGBTQ Inclusion #DiversityAndInclusion #BeyondPride #WorkplaceCulture

🌈 Celebrating International LGBT Pride day. Embracing Inclusivity and Diversity in the Workplace🌈 As we honor International LGBT Pride day, it's crucial to reflect on how we, as leaders, can create a supportive and inclusive environment for all team members, especially those who identify as LGBT . We talk a lot about Inclusion and diversity. Its easy to be complacent and think these are just buzzwords; they are essential components of a thriving workplace. How can we as leaders foster a more inclusive environment. We can actively listen by creating a space where LGBT employees feel heard and valued. Regularly check in and listen to their experiences and concerns without judgment. Ensure that your workplace policies and practices promote equality. This includes having anti-discrimination policies, offering equal benefits, and providing resources for LGBT employees. Conduct training sessions and workshops to educate all employees about LGBT issues and the importance of inclusivity. Having awareness are crucial steps towards understanding and acceptance. Recognising and celebrating the diverse identities within your team. This could be through organising events, participating in Pride Month activities, or simply acknowledging the contributions of LGBT employees. Offer mentorship programs that specifically support LGBT employees. Having a mentor who understands their unique challenges can be incredibly empowering. Use inclusive language, display symbols of support, and stand up against any form of discrimination or harassment. Creating an inclusive workplace is a continuous journey, but it’s one that leads to a stronger, more innovative, and harmonious team. This Pride day, let's commit to fostering an environment where everyone feels they belong and can thrive. Together, we can make a difference. 🏳️🌈 #PrideMonth #LGBT #Inclusivity #Diversity #Leadership #WorkplaceEquality

Pride Month: The Truth Behind Corporate Pride As Pride Month kicks off on 1st June, organizations will showcase vibrant Pride branding. Yet, behind the colourful logos, the reality for many LGBTQ employees remains dreadfully bleak. A 2023 Human Rights Campaign report found that 46% of LGBTQ employees are still closeted at work. This statistic starkly contrasts with the public displays of support many companies promote. Dr. Kevin Nadal, a leading LGBTQ psychologist, emphasizes, "Visibility without genuine support is hollow. Companies must back their words with action." Moreover, a 2022 Out & Equal survey revealed that 20% of LGBTQ employees experienced discrimination at work in the past year. These numbers expose a harsh truth: symbolic gestures do not equate to real change. Effective support requires robust anti-discrimination policies, inclusive benefits, and ongoing diversity training. The double standards are glaring. Companies in the West often display Pride colours while behaving very differently in countries where LGBTQ rights are suppressed. This hypocrisy is appalling and undermines the global fight for equality. The Williams Institute's 2021 report highlights that LGBTQ employees who are out at work are 25% more productive and have 30% higher job satisfaction. This data underscores the tangible benefits of fostering an inclusive environment—not just during Pride Month but year-round. This Pride Month, let's hold organizations accountable. It's time to demand more than performative allyship. Genuine, sustained efforts can create workplaces where employees feel safe and valued. What effective policies have you seen for promoting LGBTQ inclusion, development, and retention? #PrideMonth #LGBTQInclusion #WorkplaceEquality #TrueAllyship #DiversityMatters #HumanResources #Management

LGBTQ inclusion in the workplace isn't just a matter of fairness and equality—it's a critical component of fostering a diverse, innovative, and productive environment. When LGBT employees feel accepted and valued, they are more likely to bring their authentic selves to work, leading to increased creativity, collaboration, and job satisfaction. Inclusive workplaces also attract top talent. In today's competitive job market, individuals seek employers that demonstrate a commitment to diversity and inclusion. This not only enhances a company's reputation but also drives its success by building a workforce rich in varied perspectives and experiences. Moreover, LGBTQ inclusion promotes a sense of belonging, reducing turnover rates and fostering loyalty among employees. It encourages a culture of respect and empathy, benefiting everyone in the organization. Creating an inclusive environment requires active effort—policies that protect against discrimination, training programs to educate employees, and support systems like employee resource groups. By prioritizing LGBTQ inclusion, companies don't just comply with ethical and legal standards—they position themselves as leaders in the modern, progressive business world.
