Today, we are proud to announce a major milestone in our #Sustainability journey. Galapagos has become a signatory of the United Nations Global Compact, the world's largest corporate citizenship and sustainability initiative. ❓ What does it mean? The United Nations Global Compact is a call to companies to align strategies and operations with 10 universal principles on human rights, , labor, environment, and anti-corruption, and take actions that advance societal goals. The 10 principles provide a blueprint for fostering a global culture where extreme poverty is eradicated, the environment is protected, and everyone can enjoy peace and prosperity. At Galapagos, we embrace these principles as we work towards creating a sustainable future for all. 🤝 We are excited about this new chapter in our sustainability journey and look forward to collaborating with all our stakeholders and the United Nations to drive meaningful change. The urgency to reshape urban landscapes into havens of sustainability is intensifying! 🏙️ EIT Climate-KIC is at the forefront of this endeavour, translating climate goals into practical, scalable projects that can be integrated into the daily fabric of urban life. Our commitment to radical collaboration and a systems approach is evident in the success stories emerging from Hackney (UK), Olot (Spain), and Karasu (Turkey) and Espoo (Finland). Each of these cities were selected for the Sustainable Cities Mobility Challenge, supported by FedEx, where they received financial support to implement or expand transport solutions that are driving the green transition at the local level. In our project, Karasu Municipality and Sakarya University of Applied Sciences worked together to increase the public awareness on micromobility use and enhanced the connectivity of coastal area to the inner part of the city with safe and improved cycling infrastructure in Karasu. Transdev Ireland, the operator of Luas, holds the position of Europe’s top operator in zero-emission transportation. The team supports the annual Earth Day event by collaborating with Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) and its several sustainability projects since Luas began operating in 2004. These projects focus on reducing energy consumption and preserving biodiversity. Earth Day is an annual event taking place in more than 192 countries around the world. This year’s theme, ‘Planet vs. Plastic’ highlights the main objectives, including: → Phasing out single-use plastics, → Promoting widespread public awareness of the damage done by plastic, → Highlighting the need to invest in innovative technologies to address these challenges.
