Huntsman’s #SummerInterns from The Woodlands, Texas, joined Kevin Gundersen, Vice President of Corporate Communications and Government Affairs, for a lunch-and-learn session. They gained valuable insights into the world of government affairs and how it impacts our industry and operations here at Huntsman. Gundersen shared his firsthand knowledge and professional experiences with the students, who were eager to learn more about the impact of government affairs on the organization and industry. When asked by the summer interns what skills he had gained from government to corporate, Gundersen answered, “When you’re a senator or CEO, you have a certain type of personality. Amazingly similar. All these people are well-intentioned. Learn how they communicate and with whom. Very similar to CEOs. Apply the same tools of campaigns to business. Politicians ask for votes; CEOs ask you to work for them. Touching people’s hearts and minds. I never knew the skills I developed in D.C. would apply to corporate settings. Build skills that have value in future jobs. You’re building a body of work over your career,” Gundersen said. Today we officially opened our new Innovation Center in Tienen, Belgium. The new center strengthens our research and development (R&D) capabilities and reinforces our commitment to our customers in the region. As part of our ongoing effort to build strong team relationships and support our community, the Research & Development and Marketing teams volunteered at the Montgomery County Food Bank. Half of our volunteers helped sort and pack bags of food for school-age kids, ensuring each bag has enough food to provide 4 meals over the weekend. These thoughtfully curated bags contain items that children can eat without needing any preparation. Our team packed 925 bags (6 pallets), which were shipped by Amazon the Thursday following our volunteer day and delivered to local schools. The other half of our volunteers participated in the Produce Rescue program, saving thousands of pounds of produce from going to the landfill. This produce, which makes up 40% of the nutritional value of the food distributed by the food bank, is essential for families in need. Our team rescued 6,440 lbs of produce, which was distributed the next day. We're proud of #TeamHuntsman's dedication to making a positive impact in our community. Closing out AAPI Heritage Month strong with Iris Hsu, IT Manager II for IT Investment and Performance Governance - Americas: What does AAPI Heritage Month mean to you? "It’s time to shatter some stereotypes! 😊 AAPIs come in many packages! This AAPI was born in Oklahoma and raised in Texas. I often forget that I’m AAPI because my eyes face outward. I don’t focus on the color of my skin or what my features look like. I focus on what the people around me need and how I can best serve them. So for me, AAPI Heritage Month is not specifically about AAPI. While that sounds ironic at first, please hear me out. At its core, I believe AAPI Heritage Month is a time to recognize and appreciate that America is comprised of people from many different ethnicities, and AAPI is one of the many. While it is an ongoing journey to truly bring equity to all people, learning about the American quilt of ethnicities is a great step in the right direction. I am a proud graduate of the University of Texas at Austin with a double major in management information systems and honors plan, and I hold a Master of Arts in global leadership from Fuller Theological Seminary. My journey in industry and consulting spans 23 years, focusing on corporate transformation, enterprise planning and execution, project and change management, and executive engagement. On a personal note, I am married to a fellow Texan of Hispanic descent, and we share a passion for animal rescue, caring for our two fur babies, Lily and Logan." #HuntsmanInterns visited our Research & Development facility in The Woodlands, TX, to learn more about our innovative solutions and how their assignments impact those solutions. Brian Pellon, Huntsman’s Vice President of Research & Development, shared his insights on Huntsman products and materials, emphasizing the importance of safety at Huntsman. Following his talk, he led the interns on a 90-minute tour of the facility. Almost 300 employees and contractors work at this 220,000-square-foot research and development site. HATC is Huntsman’s primary R&D center in the Americas and one of four major regional R&D sites globally. Every day, our employees use ingenuity and human creativity to re-evaluate possibilities, such as exploring programs that convert waste streams into useful raw materials to solve customers’ engineering challenges. New Huntsman Challenge unlocked! A big thank you to Huntsman’s Global Purchasing Leadership Team for helping fight hunger by volunteering at the Montgomery County Food Bank. For two hours, the team enthusiastically worked the line, assembling boxes of fresh fruits and vegetables for the ~75K food-insecure families in our county. Their efforts resulted in 232 boxes filled, 5000 lbs of fresh produce packed, and 1400 meals provided. What an amazing achievement in such a short period of time!
