𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸: 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗚𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀 𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗳🎪 CEO Roz Brewer's tenure at the helm of Walgreens, a role she undertook in the midst of a global pandemic, exemplifies the high-stakes nature of leadership for Black women. The glass cliff phenomenon, where women, especially women of color, are more likely to be appointed as leaders during turbulent or precarious times, adds an extra layer of complexity. In crisis situations, the pressure to perform is immense. It's like trying to balance on a tightrope ... while ... keeping numerous ... balls in the air. Every move must be calculated, precise, and daring. As Brewer navigated the complexities of a healthcare giant in the midst of a pandemic, she faced this challenging scenario head-on. But juggling while walking a tightrope isn't only a burden; it's also an opportunity. ➡️ It's a chance to showcase remarkable resilience and strategic acumen. ➡️ It's an opportunity for Black female leaders to rewrite the narrative and show that not only can they excel under pressure, but they can thrive and lead organizations to new heights. Excited to see what Ms. Brewer does next! 🚀 https://lnkd.in/gP-VYXru #Leadership #GlassCliff #Diversity #CalculatedRisks #Equity

No, DEI will not be getting rid of its “political baggage”. DEI is very political because American politics are rooted in oppression. Organizations have to make a decision to be fearless in transforming our workplaces and our larger society. In this new iteration, can we get the equity right? #DEI #equity #diversityequityinclusion

This article makes many critical points, but I want to talk about one of them: · “Meanwhile, the DEI industry — which was worth an estimated $9 billion in 2023.” · “If every day you’re getting pummeled and there is no effective strategy to protect the brand of DEI, there’s no doubt it’s going to be hard for it to survive.” Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion should never be reduced to a mere brand or industry. They are foundational values and principles that should guide every aspect of our personal and professional lives. For me, this is where folks got it (and are getting it) wrong. Let's shift our perspective away from viewing DEI solely through the lens of corporate strategy and capitalistic worth. While it's vital to debate and experiment with various approaches (yes to exploring the "how" of living up to our values and principles!), it's paramount to remember the core essence of DEI and its profound significance in building a truly equitable society. How can we ensure that DEI remains rooted in its core values and principles, rather than being reduced to a mere commodity or politic that can be taken down at will? I think that’s one of the challenges we now have in front of us. #DEI #HumanResponsibility
Amid growing political backlash and legal challenges, American businesses are quietly rebranding DEI with other less polarizing terms. While companies are altering terminology around DEI, many are still committed to the goal of improving diversity and inclusion as a core value. Many large companies see a correlation between a diverse workforce and financial success, and those with the highest racial, ethnic, and gender representation are 39% more likely to financially outperform, according to a study by McKinsey & Co. https://lnkd.in/eaJBKXYx

Head of Strategic Partnerships @ Jopwell | Executive | Servant Leader | Public Speaker empowering individuals, teams, and organizations to achieve their aspirations through strategic branding, DEI and thought leadership.
𝐁𝐑𝐀𝐍𝐃 > 𝐃𝐄𝐈 Call "it" what you want. People speak different languages all the time, even when they are referring to the same person, place, or thing. 𝘛𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘥𝘰𝘦𝘴𝘯'𝘵 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘣𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘪𝘵 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘰𝘳 𝘯𝘦𝘨𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘰𝘶𝘵𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘴. As long as our commitment to 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) remains true in all that we do, then we'll have diverse representation, inclusive practices, and equitable opportunities incorporated within our organizational and institutional strategies. The moment that doesn’t become the case is when we should take 𝐁𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐀𝐜𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 for unethical practices if we notice them happening. This is an interesting read. While, it is focused mainly in how businesses in the US are responding to the legal implications related to their #DEI initiatives, there are a few points that we all need to ponder over. 1. Can DEI be counter-productive and create reverse discrimination? 2. Is the skepticism caused because DEI initiatives are mere lip-service, without being embodied in spirit? 3. Does the focus remain only on #diversity in talent acquisition and development and not so much on #equity and #inclusion? DEI initiatives and goals are likely to face resistance, and even backlash, if they do not promote fair and equitable work environment for everyone. Inclusion of some specific groups should not result in exclusion of others. Effective DEI practices are ones where every individual, department, organization is a stakeholder. Like everything, our approach to DEI has to evolve beyond terminology. https://lnkd.in/dWQUxWz2
