There are additional challenges relating to race and ethnicity that put young people from these various backgrounds at higher risk of homelessness. Currently, 61% of young people in supported accommodation are from ethnically diverse backgrounds. This needs to change. If we want to truly #EndYouthYouthHomelessness, we must support initiatives and projects which seek to specifically address this imbalance. Through our grants and Pro Bono Programme, we seek to achieve this. Our friends in the property industry have the power to make this happen. As part of this year's #BlackHistoryMonth, we wanted to share Centrepoint's recent report - Young Black and Homeless. It highlights some of the shocking statistics and the additional risk factors that people from ethnic minorities can face. Please read the report to find out about the important work Centrepoint are doing to create a more equal housing system that rebukes systemic racism. 👇 https://lnkd.in/eUQcH5Ve #BHM

What does social justice mean to you? Today is the United Nations World Day of Social Justice, a day that serves as a reminder of our need to build fairer, more equitable societies. For us, our mission is focused on just one small part of that big-picture goal. But, that small part is an enormous undertaking – ending youth homelessness in Australia. There are almost 46,000 young people experiencing homelessness in Australia, and every one of them deserves a safe and secure home. By helping young people, giving them long-term accommodation, a support network, and opportunities to grow and develop, we hope to be just one small part of the mission to build a fairer world. #EndYouthHomelessness #WorldDayofSocialJustice #SocialJustice #HomelessnessAustralia

When trying to find sollutions we have to think in more than one dimension. When approaching even the most common and strait forward challenges in our daily lives when we use more than one perspective and look at it from all angles we are able to find sollutions that are empowering and sustainable. Just as in when designing a shirt and when designing empowerment opportunities for those that experience homelessness we have to look at the situation from all perspectives and factors. Lets build sollutions together. One person at a time. One risk factor at a time. #leadership #mentalhealthawareness #investment #housingcrisis #homelessness #youth #tiedyeinspired #housingisawinwin

Did you know... 💡 LGBTQIA people are twice as likely to experience homelessness? 💡 One in five people experiencing homelessness are of Indigenous heritage? These statistics are just two examples that show young people from diverse minority groups are more likely to be at risk of homelessness.😥 It's an issue that's top of mind for the St John of God Horizon House team and one that you can read more about here 👉 bit.ly/3VS0dsx #youthweekwa
