THIS WAS MY FIRST OFFICE Nearly 35 years ago I arrived here at the Getty Museum in Malibu for my first day as the Accounting Supervisor for the museum. Since I’m visiting LA this month, I came for a visit and couldn’t help but look back and think about what I learned working here. After I got the job I did not run around to Department Heads and try and teach them how a reserve was calculated or why certain financial ratios mattered. Their eyes would have glazed over and if I had done that I would have failed in my role big time. The Department Heads here had titles like Head of Paintings and Head of Decorative Arts. These were remarkably learned and sophisticated people responsible for some of the world’s great heritage. I remember one intense work conversation I had with the Head of Sculptures. A little intimidating to be honest. We had to go over the state of his department’s operating budget and how to make it through to the end of the year on budget. Even the Getty, the world's richest museum, has budgets. Which meant discussions around trade-offs relevant to his department. Would it be better to hold off on the intern program or reduce some international travel? Or should he go ahead and hire the Deputy Head while at the same time reconsidering when to purchase a new cataloging system. The discussion was about him, his people, his department and his metrics. And how we could help. I even once received applause after running an annual budget meeting. I think that if some CX people got better at listening to the people they serve and used their sophisticated know-how to help these people achieve their goals, things might go better for the CX ambitions where they work. Of course that means operating within the sweet zone of what’s good for the Customer and what’s good for the Organization. Finance touches every department. And pulls the figures together that help to tell the story of what’s going on. My learnings working in finance have been so relevant to my work in CX and Contact Centers. And you couldn’t find a more beautiful place to work. #gladiwasanaccountant #getty #malibu #firstjob #tradeoffs #howcanihelpyou #listenmore #talkless #customerexperience #careerlessons

Almost a decade ago, I dove headfirst into the NYC hustle. I was commuting in 4-inch heels every day for an unpaid internship at a modeling agency, driven by my love for fashion. On my first day as I stepped into Times Square, someone nudged past me saying "Welcome to New York," a reminder to keep up or step aside. From designing dog beds for brands like HomeGoods and TJ Maxx to navigating real estate and development, I've explored various industries. Living in Brooklyn, then just two blocks from my office near Grand Central, I was always on the move. But after a while, I moved back to the suburbs, realizing time was slipping by too fast, and something inside me was telling me to slow down. I've come to understand that success isn’t about sticking with one job for 10 years. It’s about finding fulfillment in what you do. Freelancing on my own terms has shown me that it's okay to redefine what success looks like. Whether I jump into a new job or continue on my own path, every step is part of my journey. To those feeling stuck in the daily grind, remember: your path is yours to create. Whether you take shortcuts or the scenic route, make choices that align with your values and lead to fulfillment. Your story is still unfolding, and every experience counts. So embrace the 11pm work nights, the 5am train rides, and the tasteless office coffee. These moments are part of your story. What will your story be?

Finding Your First Job: Balancing Hustle with Reality #GenZ #Careers #WorkLifeBalance Squarespace's CMO, Kinjil Mathur, recently shared her story of entering the workforce in Fortune Magazine. It's a great reminder of the hustle it can take to land that first job, especially back in the day (hello, yellow pages!). Mathur emphasizes the importance of being open to opportunities, which I totally agree with. But here's the thing: the world of work has changed. While some level of flexibility and willingness to learn is key, Gen Z shouldn't feel pressured to accept any offer, especially if it means sacrificing work-life balance or fair pay. So, what's the takeaway? There's a middle ground. Be open to learning new skills and taking on challenging projects, but advocate for yourself too. Look for companies that value your time and offer a healthy work environment. What are your thoughts on Mathur's advice? How can we help young professionals find that balance between hustle and a sustainable career path? #Mentorship #FutureOfWork
Getting a job that offers good work-life balance is tough these days, however, Squarespace’s Chief Marketing Officer, 41-year-old Kinjil Mathur, has said In a recent interview with Fortune Magazine that youth needs to be open to do anything for any number of hours for any pay. Based in New York, Mathur has worked in the tech and fashion industries at Conde Nast, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Foursquare before joining Squarespace. She highlighted the need for innovative approaches to entering the workforce, drawing on her own experiences nearly 20 years ago. “Every single summer I was trying to find some internship,” Mathur told Fortune. “I just wanted to get experience.” “In my freshman year—and this is dating me—but this is when we used to have telephone books where you had yellow pages that had the name and number of every business and every person in your city,” Mathur said. “I went to the business listings and I just started calling up companies and asking them if they had internships available and that I would be willing to work for free.” "You've got to be willing to do whatever it takes. I was willing to work for free, I was willing to work any hours they needed—even on evenings and weekends. I was not focused on traveling. You really have to just be willing to do anything, any hours, any pay, any type of job—just really remain open." the US-based CMO said. #Startuppedia #startup #startupfounders #worklife #worklifebalance #jobs

Hello everyone! I'm excited to showcase my latest data analysis project, which is my second task as an intern at CodexCue. This project focused on hotel booking data, aiming to uncover trends in customer bookings and cancellations using advanced Exploratory Data Analysis (EDA) techniques. 🔍 Project Overview: I performed a detailed analysis to identify key factors such as seasonality, lead time, and customer preferences that influence booking behaviors. These insights are vital for hoteliers to refine their marketing strategies, pricing models, and service offerings to boost occupancy rates and enhance guest experiences. 📊 Key Analyses and Findings: Data Cleaning & Preprocessing: Ensured data integrity by addressing missing values, outliers, and inconsistencies. Descriptive Analysis: Gained an understanding of the basic characteristics of the dataset. Visual Insights: Developed comprehensive visualizations to reveal important trends: Market Segment Distribution: Horizontal bar plot highlighting the distribution of bookings across different market segments. Booking Counts by Hotel Type: Comparative analysis of booking counts for Resort Hotels versus City Hotels. Monthly Booking Trends: Examined booking trends on a monthly basis to identify seasonal patterns. Cancellation Rate by Deposit Type: Analyzed how different deposit types affect cancellation rates. Reservation Status Across Hotel Types: Visualized reservation statuses (canceled, checked out, no-show) across various hotel types. Correlation Heatmap: Illustrated the relationships between multiple variables. 📈 Significant Insights: Seasonality Effects: Observed significant variations in booking trends throughout the year. Lead Time Impact: Identified that longer lead times are associated with higher cancellation rates. Market Segments: Found that Online Travel Agencies (OTA) have the highest booking rates but also the highest cancellation rates. Customer Preferences: Determined that repeat guests have significantly lower cancellation rates compared to new customers. 💡 Implications for Hoteliers: The insights derived from this analysis can help hoteliers optimize their marketing strategies, adjust pricing models, and tailor service offerings to improve occupancy rates and enhance guest experiences. #DataAnalysis #HotelBooking #EDA #Python #Visualization #CustomerInsights #MarketingStrategy #Internship #CodexCue

Amazon Advertising I $13M in sales on Amazon, $2M Ad spend managed I Profit Growth Specialist I Using Proven and Up-to-date Advertising and Optimization Strategies
My first business venture in 2021 was a FLOP. I had just started my agency, coming from a background of working directly with clients, with no prior experience in any agency environment. 𝐒𝐨 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐝? - I Rented an office. - Bought all the office equipment. - Hired three employees. It wasn't like I didn't generate any revenue but I made one big mistake: I hired beginners with zero experience in the initial phase. I juggled two full-time jobs—running the business and training these employees from scratch. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐮𝐥𝐭? Quality started to drop and I became overwhelmed, I constantly torn between client work and babysitting employees waiting for me to show them what to do. 𝐓𝐡𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡𝐬 𝐩𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐞𝐝 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬: - My personal growth came to a halt. - I had to step down from 4 client projects. - I fired all the employees. But there are quite a lot of things that I gained from this. ↳Don't hire anyone until you have solid systems and SOPs in place. ↳Don't hire completely beginners; at least ensure they have some internship or basic experience. ↳A mentor is invaluable—seek expert advice before diving into something new. After that experience, I took a step back and worked in various roles at different agencies. I immersed myself in learning how systems work, understanding the inner workings of an agency, and gaining more advanced knowledge. I narrowed my focus specifically on advertising and even completed an advanced course. By the end of 2023, I felt ready to start my agency again. 𝐀𝐧𝐝 𝐧𝐨𝐰? Alhamdulillah, I'm serving multiple clients with a talented and skilled team, applying everything I’ve learned from my experienced mistakes. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Talha Deol
