“The fact is, the vast majority of young people go through school without a sense of purpose. Our school system does not foster it. The majority of schools and districts remain compliance-focused and attend narrowly to the flawed set of outcomes represented by our state’s accountability system, like test scores, attendance rates, suspensions, etc.” Roman Stearns thanks for sharing your story, the interaction with your son and his friend, your experience within Cajon, and your commentary about what is missing in schools. I often find that when parents experience these moments with their kids, they realize, in a new and more vivid way, how important early exposure to the world of work is and how important it is for kids to have meaningful conversations with caring adults about their futures. It’s a reminder of how learning about careers, by using job titles and student interests, provides broad exposure for the types of real opportunities that are available to kids, especially those who have little exposure to the world of work. As you rightly share- much of the credit goes to Dave Miyashiro and a board with as much foresight to understand such a gap exists in our schools. If I can be of service to Everett please let me know. I’d be happy to hear from him and share some career development ideas in case that is useful. Did you know that the charter school movement has been gaining momentum since the late 1980s, and it's only getting stronger? According to UsNews and World Report, charter schools operated in 35 states back in 2000-2001. Fast forward to today, and that number has risen to 45 states, with West Virginia adopting a charter school law in 2019! 🌎 Enrollment in charter schools has been on the rise, too! 📈 In the 2021-2022 school year, nearly 3.7 million students were enrolled in charter schools nationwide, making up about 7% of all public school students. This is a significant increase from the approximately 2 million students enrolled in charters back in 2011-2012, representing about 4% of public school students. 📚✨ Robin Lake, director of the Center on Reinventing Public Education, points out that investments made in high-quality charter school models in the early 2000s, along with increased demand for more accessible educational opportunities, have fueled this explosive growth. 💥 At RePublic Charter School, we're proud to be a part of this movement, providing innovative and high-quality education to our students and communities. 🏫 Let's keep growing and empowering the next generation of leaders together! 💪 #CharterSchoolSuccess #EducationMatters #RePublicStrong

📣 Urgent Call to Action: University of South Florida, as an Institution with a 45% diversity population and recent Association of American Universities (AAU) member, it's time to stand up for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI)! AAU President Barbara R. Snyder underscores the vital role of diversity in education and academic success. In the face of The Florida Department of Education's actions against DEI, remaining silent does a disservice to students, faculty, and the AAU's commitment to DEI. Let's unite in support of a diverse and inclusive education! 🎓 #DEI #HigherEd #USF AAU President Barbara R. Snyder emphasizes, "A university education in which one’s fellow students all come from similar backgrounds is woefully incomplete and fundamentally flawed." In light of the recent ban on funding for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs by the Florida Department of Education, educational institutions must take a stand. The ban contradicts the principles AAU stands for, and without expressing concern, we risk compromising the values of diversity and inclusivity that contribute to academic excellence. Let's advocate for an inclusive education for all! To read more about this find my blog post below. 📚🌍 #StandForDEI #USFDEI https://lnkd.in/eG5n8eh8
